Stutt wins third sprint car race of year
At Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, TJ Stutts won his third sprint car race of the season. Last week the Liverpool driver bested the World of Outlaws and this week, Stutts chalked up a last lap pass on race-long leader Jake Karklin to net the win and a $500 bonus for making the winning move on the final circuit.
In the 358 sprint main, Preston Lattomus held on to win his first-ever checkers at the track after wiring the field. Lattomus started on the pole of the 25-lap Summer Series main for 358 sprints and would end up leading the whole way for the victory.
After a break from racing this weekend, Williams Grove Speedway will present a trio of racing programs on Aug. 16, 23 and 30. Next Friday will be another Yellow Breeches 500 event for the 410 sprints. The 358 sprints are also on the program. With the season entering its final two months, Freddie Rahmer currently leads the 410 sprint car point standings over Troy Wagaman Jr. while TJ Stutts has moved into third place in the standings.
Meanwhile the Knoxville Nationals started with the 360 sprint cars and Sam Hafertepe Jr. pulled even with Kaleb Johnson in the early MPV Express standings heading into Saturdays finale of the 34th annual Knoxville 360. Points will be accumulated with events at both Knoxville Raceway and Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa from Aug. 1-10.
The winner will take home $6,500. Hafertepe and Johnson currently lead Cory Eliason, Chase Randall, Brian Brown, Kade Higday, Austin McCarl, Jake Bubak, Emerson Axsom and Kasey Kahne in the point standings.
On Sunday night between the 360 and 410 nationals, the speedway paid tribute to Ralph Capitani, with the running of the Capitani Classic and Rico Abreu won a duel for the lead with Daryn Pittman and went on to win the Capitani Classic. The win was his seventh at the Sprint Car Capital of the World and was worth $13,000.
