Jersey Shore notes: Jersey Shore hits the road for a three-hour road trip to District 1 country and will be trying to clinch its 11th straight winning season.
The Bulldogs are also looking to rebound following last week's heartbreaking 27-25 loss at Hollidaysburg. Jersey Shore has lost both games this season by two points, but has navigated a demanding schedule well and is second in the District 4 Class AAAA standings. If they stay there, the Bulldogs will host a semifinal in Week 11. Jersey Shore has stymied the running game in three straight contests, but after swarming against Williamsport, allowed 251 passing yards against Hollidaysburg. Slate Sechrist continued playing like one of the state's premier linemen and made 13 tackles, including three for loss. Owen Vandruff added 10 tackles, including eight solos, and all-state linebacker Bo Sechrist also had 10 tackles, the sixth time he has reached double figures this season. Zeke Sechrist has four sacks and Trent Severino produced at least half a sack in three straight games before last week. Quarterback Elijah Jordan totaled 324 yards, throwing four touchdowns. He is tied for the area lead in touchdown passes and leads in yards. Evan Snyder has caught seven of his district-high 11 touchdowns the past three weeks and Paul Hale also is among the area's top five in catches. Jersey Shore will be playing a District 1 team for the first time since 2019 when it beat Bishop Shanahan in the first round of states for the program's first ever state tournament victory.
Jersey Shore player to watch--Landyn Rhea: With linebacker Brodie Herr sidelined tonight, Rhea could play a vital role. He has made an impact the last three weeks, improving his tackle total in each of the past two games. Rhea produced a sack against Williamsport and added five tackles last week.
Penn Wood PPG--14.4, PPA--23.9; YPG--204.6
Penn Wood notes: The Patriots (2-5) are progressing after winning three games the previous two years combined and are a battle-tested team with District 1 being among the state's deepest. Penn Wood has allowed just 10 points in its two wins, blanking Mastery North Charter, 6-0 two weeks ago. Quarterback Taj Cobb is a dual threat, leading the team in passing and rushing. He has thrown for 480 yards and eight touchdowns, while running for 358 yards and two scores, twice going over 100 yards. Four players have run for at least 145 yards. Rashon Sanders leads the team in receiving with 19 catches for 215 yards and four touchdowns. He also has run for 154 yards and a score. The Patriots have intercepted eight passes and forced 13 turnovers. Seven different players also have sacks. This is the first of two straight games against state-caliber teams for Penn Wood which heads to Chester next Saturday to play the state's No. 2-ranked Class 5A team.
Penn Wood player to watch--Richard Vahn: The sophomore linebacker is having a breakout season and leads the team in tackles, averaging 6.4 per game. Vahn also has a sack and four tackles for loss. He made a career-high 10 tackles four weeks ago against Academy Park.
Outlook: It's hard to get a read on a team three hours away, so this could be interesting, especially with the long road trip. Jersey Shore likely will be itching to get back at it after last week's frustrating end, so the Bulldogs are the pick here, although it will not be easy.
