Local roundup: Muncy boys soccer falls to Bloomsburg on the road

In boys soccer, Muncy goalkeeper Bodie Moyer recorded 12 saves on Wednesday evening, as the Indians fell to Bloomsburg on the road by a score of 5-0. Connor Fogg pulled off a hat trick and Justin Pegg added two goals, all five of which came in the first half, as the Panthers improved to 6-9-3 on the year.

Lewisburg’s Isaac Ayres scored twice and had an assist and Viktor Permyashkin had two assists as Lewisburg defeated Crestwood, 4-0. The win moves the Green Dragons to 15-1-1.

Riley Gulden-Luthi and Alex Gilmore both had goals as well while Gabe Pawling recorded six saves for the shutout.

Warrior Run and Selinsgrove battled through two overtime periods and settled with a 1-1 draw as neither team could score a game-winner. Selinsgrove took a lead in the second half before Warrior Run’s Gavin Hunter scored the game-tying goal with five minutes to play as Cooper Wilkins assisted.

Milton held a lead until late into the first half, but Central Columbia would score three unanswered goals for a 3-1 win over the Black Panthers. Gaige Gensemer had two goals and an assist and Torin Karns had a goal and assist.

• Despite getting out to a 2-0 lead through the first two sets against Lourdes on Wednesday, the Lewisburg volleyball team couldn't garner that last coveted set point, dropping the last three sets to fall to the Red Raiders, 3-2, with set scores of 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 18-25 and 8-15.

Elsa Fellon led the team in kills (15), aces (five) and blocks (three), also attributing seven digs through the evening as she impacted the match in all facets. Addison Putman and Claire Chandler each contributed 12 assists and Ella Vance and Katie Houtz combined for 14 digs, with Vance finishing second on the team in kills with seven.

• Penn College won its third-straight match with a 1-0 victory over Wilson College in a United East men’s soccer game. Penn College struck in the 32nd minute when Jack Lenosky scored his second goal of the season on a direct kick. The Wildcats nearly made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute, but Alex Heiser’s header hit the right post.

Penn College’s best chance at an insurance goal in the second half came in the 69th minute when Lenosky hit the crossbar. Tommy DeGeyter had an opportunity in the 82nd minute, but his point-blank shot was stopped.

Down by two goals midway through the second half, the Lycoming College men's soccer team had no margin for error, and so, it was perfect on its next two corner kicks, with sophomore Aidan Stillman and senior Jaeden Asare each scoring to help the team to a 2-2 draw against league-leading Juniata College in Landmark Conference play.

In a match featuring the top two teams in the PSAC West, first-place Lock Haven took down second-place Seton Hill in convincing fashion, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Kade Black, Austin Kravetz and Billy Lawrence each scored a goal and, in the net, Ethan Beck and Brady Frewald combined for a shutout, with Beck posting five saves. With the win, the Haven extends its first-place lead in the division, improving to 6-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC West.

• Two quick first-half goals and a Megan Kurian hat-trick propelled Penn College to a 6-0 United East Conference victory over Wilson. With the victory, Penn College clinched its third-straight playoff appearance and eighth postseason berth in the NCAA-era.

Penn College pressed early and held possession of the ball on the Wilson half of the field, setting up for its second corner in the 16th minute. Cassie Johnson sent the ball in from the left corner and Lucy Kontir put the finishing touch for the game’s opening goal at 15:31.

The Wildcats’ next chance came a minute later when Makayla Bucks connected with Kurian who buried her 19th goal of the season in the bottom left for a 2-0 lead which Penn College held until the half.

Williamsport grad Elizabeth Shultz scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute to lead Lock Haven to a 2-1 PSAC East victory over Mansfield on the road on Wednesday afternoon.

South Williamsport graduate Aleigha Rieppel opened the scoring for the Bald Eagles, as she connected for her first goal of the season off an assist by Evelyn Ciaccia to give Lock Haven a 1-0 edge in the 32nd minute of play. And in net, Megan Miller earned the win for Lock Haven, finishing with four saves.

• Penn College senior Peyton Mussina, a Montoursville graduate, had four birdies en route to shooting an opening-round 69 on Tuesday, and he capped the two-day Alvernia University Fall Invitational Battle at Bulle Rock Golf Course with a 73 and 142 total to medal in a 52-player field.

In the team competition, the Wildcats placed sixth among 11, with only three shots separating the numbers 4, 5, and 6 squads.

Mussina’s 3-under-par score gave him a one-stroke lead over Michael Thomas of Christopher Newport University, and Penn College’s Gunner Redmond was alone in third place after shooting a 73 on the 6,687-yard Bulle Rock course. Also for the Wildcats, who ended third on the day with a 312-team total, were Brady Handy with an 84, tied for 31st; Will Orwig with an 86, tied for 37th; and Matt Capoferri with a 91, tied for 50th.
