KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - Sophomore Hayden Pardoe, a Central Mountain graduate, led the Lycoming College men's basketball team with 20 points as two of his teammates finished in double figures, but Keuka College overcame a first-half deficit thanks in large part to a 76% effort from the free throw line to post a 71-66 non-conference win at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Wednesday night.
Pardoe posted 18 points in the first half, going 7 of 10 from the field, before finishing with 20 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Connor Shanahan posted 14 points and two steals and junior Isaiah Valentine added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, as Lycoming (0-3 overall) shot 38% (26 of 68) from the field.
Freshman Gyasi Miller added eight points, six rebounds and five steals in his debut and sophomore Ethan Bomgardner added six points and four rebounds.
Keuka (2-0 overall) led 17-5 in the game's opening 7:30 before the Warriors responded with a 26-10 run over the next nine minutes, as Pardoe led that run with 10 points. The Warriors expanded the lead to eight at 38-30 with 1:32 left after a free throw from Shanahan before they took a six-point lead into the break.
Lycoming led by 10 through the first four minutes of the second half and by eight after a tip-in layup by senior Ivan Komitskiwith 14:21 left, but Keuka used an 11-2 run to lead by four with 10 minutes left. Lycoming closed within a possession three more times, with a layup from first-year Noah Mathis (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) with 25 seconds left making it 67-66. However, the Wolves hit four free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.
Will Tehan led the Wolves with 21 points and nine rebounds and Damon Brumfield added 19 points. Akinlana Popoola added 16 points and four assists, as Keuka shot 42 percent from the field (22 of 53) and 76% from the free throw line (19 of 25).
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Nov. 16, when they host Haverford in a non-conference game at 4 p.m. at Lamade Gym.
