Lycoming’s Kami Abdo notches six assists against eight-ranked Wis.-Whitewater in women’s basketball loss

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Junior Kami Abdo posted a career-high six assists to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team against the eighth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the Daytona Beach Shootout at the Ocean Center on Saturday. 

Senior Ashley Yoh posted seven points, senior Alicia Goldenziel and sophomore Ann-Marie McMurtrie each made six, and senior Mya Wetzel added five for the Warriors (1-9 overall), as she reached 500 career points in the contest.

After the Warhawks (9-1 overall) jumped out with two free throws in the first quarter, Wetzel hit a layup in the paint in the second minute. Yoh added both a jumper and a 3-pointer in the third minute as the Warriors led, 7-5. Junior Allison Fisher posted a 3-point jumper with four minutes remaining. Sophomore Makenna Hartman followed up with a jumper, but Wis.-Whitewater led 25-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Yoh kicked off the second quarter with a jumper, and senior Meghan Dufner followed up four minutes later with a layup in the paint. Sophomore Alyssa Reisinger hit a jumper, Wetzel added a free throw, and Goldenziel made a jumper in the last two minutes of play.

Yoh hit a jumper and Goldenziel contributed a layup to lead Lycoming's efforts in the third quarter. With a minute left, Dufner made two free throws. Sophomore Sydnie Stone, a Montoursville gradute, added two free throws at the start of the fourth quarter and Goldenziel followed up with a jumper in the paint. In the last five minutes, freshman Summer Emlet, McMurtrie, and junior Katie Bena hit free throws for the Warriors. McMurtrie posted a layup to the board, and Bena followed up with another with a second remaining.

Maggie Trautsch led the Warhawks with 13 points. Kacie Carollo added 10 points and Katie Hildebrandt contributed seven, as the Warhawks shot 49% (28 of 57) in the game while holding Lycoming to 32% (14 of 43).
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4, for a non-conference game at Misericordia University.
