Jersey Shore grad McCracken leads Warriors in setback against Drew
MADISON, N.J. – Freshman Jocelyn McCracken, a Jersey Shore graduate, led the Lycoming College women’s basketball team with 13 points in a 69-48 setback at Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday in Baldwin Gym.
Senior Ashley Yoh added 10 points for the Warriors (3-16 overall, 2-10 Landmark). Senior Meghan Dufner followed suit, posting nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two assists. Senior Mya Wetzel also collected seven rebounds and four assists.
After Drew (11-8 overall, 6-6 Landmark) jumped out in the first quarter with a successful 3-pointer, Yoh responded with a layup to get the Warriors on the board. The Rangers widened their gap with a 3-pointer and a layup before McCracken hit a layup and free throw in the third minute.
Drew immediately returned with a 3-pointer, a layup and a free throw before Dufner dropped in another layup in the fifth minute. Yoh followed up with another layup in the sixth minute before Wetzel drained a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 16-12. In the seventh minute, sophomore Makenna Hartman and Dufner each added a free throw, ending the quarter behind by six, 20-14.
McCracken kicked off the Warriors’ scoring in the first minute of the second quarter with a layup. Drew pulled away with two jumpers and a layup before sophomore Ann-Marie McMurtrie hit a jumper in the fifth minute. Yoh followed up with a jumper two minutes later, bringing the score to 32-20. McCracken added free throws in the last two minutes as the team entered halftime behind, 42-24.
Dufner hit a layup in the first ten seconds of the third quarter and followed up with another in the sixth minute. McCracken returned in the seventh minute with a layup and Yoh added a layup with 45 seconds left on the clock to end the period.
Hartman opened the fourth quarter with a layup in the first minute. Freshman Summer Emlet and Yoh each followed up with layups a minute later. In the sixth minute, Dufner pushed forward with a jumper and McCracken followed up with a layup. Wetzel added two free throws in the eighth minute and returned with two more in the last minute. With 20 seconds left, sophomore Sydnie Stone, a Montoursville graduate, added two more free throws.
Isabelle Lalo led the Rangers in points, recording 14. Gianna Pica added 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three assists. Amy Rachilla recorded 12 points and four assists. The Warriors return to the Lamade Gym on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. for a Landmark Conference game against Juniata College.
