A sluggish offensive start proved costly as Hughesville fell to Mifflinburg in boys basketball, 63-37. The Wildcats jumped out to a 32-16 lead at halftime and Hughesville couldn’t rally back.
Hughesville was led by Paul Rogan and Alex Schultz who both scored eight points. Mifflinburg saw three players record double figures in Jackson Griffith (160), Simon Snook (12) and Cole Riebsome (11).
A nine-point second quarter hurt Montoursville as Mount Carmel outscored the Warriors by 11 in the second en route to a 59-50 win.
Montoursville led 17-13 after the first quarter, but the 20-9 edge for Mount Carmel in the second gave the Red Tornadoes a 33-26 lead which Mount Carmel held onto.
Shea Ulmer led Montoursville with 16 points as four players were in double figures. Kingston Fisher scored 12, Elijah Eck scored 10 and Jimmy Mussina added 10.

Lewisburg came up just shy against Central Columbia, 58-51. The Green Dragons had three players record double digits with Tai Britto’s 16 points, Nazir Meredith’s 12 and Cooper Mowry’s 10.
Parker Bennett scored a game-high 18 points and Montgomery used a big second quarter to defeat Canton, 44-35. Bennett scored 10 points in that second quarter when the Red Raiders (12-6) turned a three-point deficit into a 28-17 halftime lead. Hayden Wilt added nine points and Brady O’Rourke eight, while going 6 for 6 at the foul line. Ben Fitch scored 16 for Canton (7-13) and Talin Williams 11.
Cooper Wilkins scored 14 points and Landon Polcyn added eight points, six rebounds and four assists, but Southern Columbia rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit and defeated Warrior Run, 47-42. Combined with Mifflinburg’s win against Hughesville, the Defenders (15-4, 8-2) will share the HAC-III crown with Mifflinburg. Warrior Run can earn the league’s berth in the HAC Tournament, however, if it wins one its final two conference games.
Saoj Jones scored 12 points and Isiah Jennings 11 but Loyalsock could not hold onto a six-point fourth quarter lead at Bloomsburg, dropping a 50-49 heartbreaker. Freshman Brecken Gusick also was in double figures with 10 points. Loyalsock (6-14) had stormed back after trailing 15-4 entering the second quarter.
• Williamsport was held to single digits in both the third and fourth quarters as State College pulled away en route for a 79-41 win in girls basketball at the Magic Dome against the Millionaires.

Nadirah Tutler was the only double-digit scorer for the Millionaires. Khamya Moate scored nine and Jaelynn Helmrich added seven.
North Penn-Liberty held off Meadowbrook Christian at home en route to a 28-25 win. Haley Litzelman posted another double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds and added four steals. Kaylee Graham had seven points and four steals.
Liberty also saw Kendall Graham score seven points, grab three rebounds and dish out three assists. Meadowbrook Christian was led by Maddy Fasnacht’s 15 points.
• Montoursville graduate Lily Saul broke the University of Rhode Island indoor 800 record with a time fo 2:05.40. The former Warrior track standout currently leads the Atlantic-10 in the 800 and 1,000. She holds two school records as she also broke the 600 previously.
