Central Mountain’s Camryn Bair finishes 14th in 10 breast in Class AAA competition

It may not have been the way Central Mountain senior Camryn Bair envisioned her career coming to an end at the PIAA Class AAA championships, but Bair gave everything she had in her final swim.

The Wildcat, who will swim at West Virginia University next year, reached the B finals in the 100 breast on Saturday morning in the prelims and wrapped up her Central Mountain career with a 14th-place finish with a time of 1:05.88 on Saturday in the B finals.

“Obviously she was hopeful to make the A final, but grateful that she gave it her all and was able to swim in the B finals,” Central Mountain coach Scott Bair said.

The 14th-place finish comes a day after Bair took 13th in 50 free on Friday night.

On Saturday morning, Bair swam a time of 1:05.41 to secure a spot in the B finals. The two B final appearances also make Bair a two-time honorable mention all-state selection this year. Those who reach the A finals receive all-state honors while B finalists are honorable mention.

Bair ends her career as one of Central Mountain’s best swimmers in history. She’s a four-time state qualifier and reached the B finals three times in her career with four finishes in the finals.

In addition to her 13th place finish in the 50 free this year and 14th in the 100 breast, Bair finished 10th in the 50 free as a junior and tied for 11th in the event her sophomore season.

She’s the only girls swimmer in Central Mountain history — not Lock Haven High School — to place in the top-16 four times in her career.

“I am so proud of all of her accomplishments this season as wel as the last four years,” coach Bair said. “She has put in a ton of time in the water and in the ewight room and has earned all of the accomplishments that she has achieved. I am excited to watch her journey at WVU.”

The best finish in Central Mountain history belongs to Nate DeCapria, a seventh-place finisher in the 100 back in 2001. Prior to becoming Central Mountain, the former Lock Haven High School had a number of top-8 finishers including Brian Foley (fifth in 100 back, 1990) and Mike Connor (second in 100 breast in 1976; fifth in 100 breast in 1975).

No girl swimmer in Central Mountain/Lock Haven High School history has ever competed in the A finals.
