NCAA wrestling seeds announced as LHU, Bucknell, Penn State represented

For the 330 wrestlers who were fortunate to earn a berth in the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, all that’s left is rest and recuperation.

The NCAA announced Wednesday night the seeds and pairings for the tournament, which is set for next Thursday through Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia

Six Lock Haven Bald Eagles, five Bucknell Bison and 10 Penn State Nittany Lions know their foe for the opening-round of competition.

LOCK HAVEN

At 133 pounds, redshirt senior and the Bald Eagles’ first four-time MAC champion Anthony Noto (20-6) was seeded 15th. He meets No. 18 seed Julian Farber (17-6) of Northern Iowa.

Redshirt junior and two-time MAC champion Wyatt Henson (26-4) is the 16th seed and meets No. 17 seed Shannon Hanna (25-8) of Campbell at 141 pounds.

At 174, senior Avery Bassett (25-8) is seeded No. 31 and meets No. 2 seed Levi Haines (20-1) of Penn State, a two-time finalist and 2024 champion at 157. Haines won the Big Ten title over the weekend.

Redshirt senior 184-pounder Colin Fegley (21-10), who received an at-large selection and is seeded No. 30, meets Minnesota redshirt freshman Max McEnelly (20-1), who lost to Penn State four-time NCAA champion Carter Starocci in sudden victory in the Big Ten final.

Freshman 197-pounder Tucker Hogan (22-6), the No. 29 seed who received an at-large selection, meets Penn State redshirt freshman No. 4 seed Josh Barr (16-3).

And, at 285 pounds, graduate Gavin Hoffman (19-2), the MAC champion, was seeded 14th and meets Binghamton No. 19 seed Cory Day (20-6). Hoffman is a Montoursville graduate.

BUCKNELL

Senior 133-pounder Kurt Phipps (22-8), the EIWA champion, was seeded No. 25 and meets Penn State sophomore No. 8 seed Braeden Davis (12-5). Davis was seeded No. 1 at 125 a year ago but failed to place.

At 141, senior Dylan Chappell (19-10), a three-time EIWA runner-up, was seeded No. 21 and meets No. 12 seed Sam Latona (23-7) of Virginia Tech.

Sophomore 165-pounder Noah Mulvaney, the EIWA runner-up who didn’t wrestle in the finals who was seeded 17th, meets Hofstra No. 16 seed Kyle Mosher (17-8).

Sophomore 174-pounder Myles Takats (23-7), who earned an at-large bid, is seeded 12th and meets North Carolina No. 21 seed Joshua Ogunsanya (13-5).

And, at 197, freshman Dillon Bechtold (22-9), who was seeded No. 18, will meet No. 15 seed Joseph Novak (23-5) of Wyoming.

PENN STATE

Four Nittany Lions — Luke Lilledahl (125), Tyler Kasak (157), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165) and Starocci (184) — were seeded No. 1.

Beau Bartlett (141) and Haines (174) were seeded second. Shayne Van Ness (149) and Greg Kerkvliet (285) earned No. 3 seeds. Josh Barr (197) was seeded fourth. Davis (133) was seeded eighth.

Lilledahl (19-2), fresh off his Big Ten championship as a freshman, will face the winner of a pigtail bout in the Round of 32. That matchup features No. 33 Caleb Weiand (12-16) of Michigan State vs. No. 32 Marcello Milani (16-11) of Cornell.

Davis (12-5) meets Phipps (22-8) of Bucknell.

Senior Bartlett (21-1), the NCAA runner-up a year ago, will try to make it to the top of the podium in his final tournament. He is paired with No. 31 seed Jordan Titus (12-16) from West Virginia.

Van Ness (20-2), a redshirt sophomore, placed third two years ago at the NCAA tournament. He will face Wyoming No. 30 seed Gabe Wilochell (17-12) of Wyoming, who Van Ness pinned in 4:27 in the December dual meet.

Kasak (17-1), a sophomore who lost his first match at the 2024 tournament and then reeled off seven straight wins to place third, will face the winner of a pigtail bout between No. 33 seed Richard Fedalen (20-13) of Columbia and No. 32 seed Landen Johnson (16-11) of Northern Illinois.

Sophomore Mesenbrink (22-0), the defending NCAA runner-up, also awaits the winner of a pigtail match. He’ll face the winner of No. 33 Chandler Amaker (14-12) of Central Michigan and Jared Keslar (10-11) of Pittsburgh.

Haines (20-1) and Bassett (25-8) meet at 174.

Four-time NCAA champion Starocci (21-0) starts his march toward an unprecedented fifth title against the winner of a pigtail match pitting No. 33 T.J. McDonnell (7-13) of Oregon State vs. No. 32 Caden Rogers (14-6) of Lehigh.

Barr (16-3 is paired with Hogan (22-6) at 197.

And, Kerkvliet (18-1), a senior and defending NCAA champion, starts the defense of his title against Wyoming No. 30 seed Sam Mitchell (27-10).
