Zach Myers threw a masterful one-hit shutout and struck out seven, leading Jersey Shore to a key 4-1 win against Shamokin in baseball on Monday.
Myers threw an efficient 88 pitches and helped the Bulldogs (6-5) avenge a previous loss against Shamokin. Commanding his pitches and drilling his spots, the right-hander allowed just a third inning run. Freshman Nolen Pauling belted two doubles and drove in two runs, while fellow freshman Carter Rhinehart also produced two hits.
Collin Berguson hit a RBI double, Mason Winter was 1 for 1 with an RBI and Landon Welshans added a hit.
Royce Bowes, Zack Neill and Brody Aldenderfer all collected three hits, helping Montoursville defeat Midd-West, 9-3. Aldenderfer drove in three runs, Neill two and Bowes scored twice while earning the save, throwing two scoreless innings after taking over in a one-run game.
Noah Kirby hit an RBI double and Montoursville scored five seventh inning runs to remain within a game of first in the HAC-II. The Warriors (7-1, 5-1) host first-place Mount Carmel Wednesday.
Kayden Keefer produced a hit and RBI but Southern Columbia scored seven third inning runs and defeated Loyalsock, 9-2. Dolan Harman added a hit and a run, while Jahvon LaRosa pitched well in relief, allowing just one run in three innings for Loyalsock which lost for the first time in four games.
Marek Mascho hit a home run and drove in two runs and Maxwell Mascho had a double, but Wellsboro lost a close contest to Cowanesque Valley, 7-5, as the Green Hornets came shy of rallying. Wellsboro scored three runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to two, but Cowanesque Valley got out of the jam.
Gavin Churchill went 2 for 3 for Cowanesque Valley.
• Lynna Clark went 4 for 5 with a triple, while earning the win as Jersey Shore pounded out 18 hits and defeated Shikellamy, 14-9, in softball.
Dani Miller and Kylie Schall both generated three hits with Schall driving in three runs and Miller scoring three times. Jaymison Stellfox had two hits, doubled and scored three times, while Alexis Frey added two hits and Isabelle Engel three RBIs, helping Jersey Shore (7-1, 5-0 HAC-I) win its fifth straight game.
Wellsboro scored at least two runs in four out of six innings and Wellsboro defeated Canton, 12-9, thanks to a 12-hit performance by the team.
Addy Frantz hit a home run while Rylee Coolidge was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and Paige Logsdon hit a double by going 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Teagan Novinger had two hits and Kaylee Frazier went 1 for 4 with two RBIs. Canton was led by Alyssa May who went 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Sullivan County scored 16 runs in the second inning to cruise to a 23-0 win over Sugar Valley in three innings, limiting the Phoenix to no hits and taking advantage of nine errors and nine walks. The Griffins led 7-0 after the first inning and collected eight hits.
• Loyalsock earned a 3-2 win against South Williamsport in boys tennis on Monday afternoon. The Lancers won two singles matchups while Loyalsock and South split the doubles competition.
Colby Peters picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against South's Wyatt Robbins. At No. 2, Evan Anderson beat Sawyer Fry 6-2, 6-1.
South's Carson Harris had a tough win at No. 3 singles over Ian Bower, securing a 7-6 (7), 0-6, 10-8 victory.
In doubles action, David Miller and Levi Jackson of South beat Aadi Patel and Marco Blas, 6-2, 6-2.
Lewisburg blanked Selinsgrove, 5-0, to keep its undefeated season in check (11-0). Will Cecchini picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Lomond Rodgers. At No. 2 singles, Lewisburg's Alexey Rosenberg defeated McAlister Defazio, 6-2, 6-3.
Canyon Swartzentruber won at No. 3 singles for the Green Dragons, 6-3, 6-2.
Danville defeated Milton, 5-0, to improve to 9-3. Milton's Preston Reedy fell to Nick Petrick at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 1 and No. 3 singles, Danville won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 thanks to David Sommer and Nick Hand winning, respectively.
Milton's Adam Kerstetter and Talen Strous lost at No. 1 doubles to Colin Sauers and Munjaal Mehta, 6-0, 6-2.
Central Columbia blanked North Penn-Liberty, 5-0, to drop the Mounties to 1-10. David Toscano defeated North Penn-Liberty's Ray Nickerson at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Central's Junior Pauley won 6-1, 6-2 over Ayden Deitrick.
• Gabby Gunnip and Nadia Baskot combined for nine goals to lead the Lock Haven lacrosse team to an 18-10 PSAC West victory over visiting Gannon on Monday afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles (8-6, 5-3 PSAC) move one step closer to clinching their second straight trip to the PSAC Championship Tournament. Lock Haven controls its own fate and can secure the third seed in the PSAC West with a victory over Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday.
Trailing 4-2 in the closing minute of the first period, Gunnip and Baskot scored back-to-back goals in less than 30 seconds to knot the game at 4-4.
• Cowanesque Valley's Andrew Boyer was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Director Association Distinguished Coaching Educator. He was awarded the honor at the PSADA Conference last month.
Boyer is in his 21st year as an athletic direcotr and just completed his 21st year as a PIAA volleyball and basketball official where he has refereed numerous District 4 finals and state playoff games. When he doesn't referee, he can be found managing games for the District 4 Baord of Directors.
Since 2018, he has served as the District 4 cross country chairman, and District 4 Athletic Director's treasurer and secretary since 2012.
