A torrid start helped Williamsport produce a fantastic regular season finish.
The team’s first eight batters reached base, the first out recorded was a productive RBI fielder’s choice and Williamsport erupted for eight first inning runs while cruising to a 13-2, five-inning win Friday at Millionaire Mountain. The Millionaires (14-6) closed the regular season on a five-game winning streak and excelled in all facets against a 16-win perennial title contender as Cole Deitrick, Ryan Schur, Wyatt Bair and Trey Damschroder combined on a three-hitter.
“It feels awesome. I think we hit our stride at the right time,” Camden March said after going 2 for 4 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs. “You always want to be hot going into the playoffs, so I think we did it at the right time.”
They sure did.
Williamsport storms into the District 2-4 Class AAAAAA semifinals, receiving a first-round bye after climbing two spots during its winning streak. The Millionaires are 4-0 since last Saturday and have scored at least five runs in all those games, including reaching 10 runs in three.

The pitching and defense also have shined and Williamsport played its fourth consecutive error-less game. The Millionaires were playing for the second time in less than 24 hours after defeating South Williamsport under the lights Thursday but played with a greater sense of urgency against Redeemer, scoring multiple runs in three of its four at-bats.
“Last night (Thursday) we waited a little bit and didn’t get too hot in the first couple of innings. We wanted to make a bit of a statement today,” March said. “I think we capitalized on that and drove the ball really well.”
Redeemer scored a first inning run and took a brief lead, but March set the explosive offensive tone, leading off the bottom half with a double down the left field line. March fanned the flames and his teammates turned them into an inferno that engulfed Redeemer.
Deshaun White went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs in the first inning and followed March’s double with a game-tying RBI single before Zane Rogers singled and Christian Franzen put Williamsport ahead to stay when he rocked a two-run ground-rule double that hopped the left field fence on one bounce.
The Millionaires continued passing the bat with Wyatt Bair (2 for 2) hitting an RBI single. Grant Vilello walked, Jaxson March walked and Giovanni made the first out a good one, hitting the ball to the right side and driving in another run. White capped the binge with a two-run double and Williamsport knocked out the Redeemer starting pitcher before an out was recorded.

“I think it’s always great to start the game with even a single,” Camden March said. “To get a double compels all your teammates to get the ball rolling.”
March started the season on a tear before cooling the last few weeks. Like his teammates, he could be finding his groove at the perfect time, however. The shortstop continued raking in the fourth inning, belting an RBI triple after Nate Crowe singled before scoring on Chase Kelley’s RBI infield single.
“I’ve been in a little bit of a slump recently but I used this game as a reset game,” March said. “I worked on a couple of things and worked at-bats at the plate.”
March, White, Bair and Kelley all generated two hits and White drove in two runs for a second consecutive game. Bair has reached base in six consecutive at-bats the last two days and Grant Viello in five of his six plate appearances.
A successful regular season in which a resilient team overcame a rash of costly injuries is over. Now the Millionaires turn their sights on the postseason. They have come close, but lost in the championship the past three seasons. The work continues and a team which embraces work is exciting about both the challenge and the opportunity.

“We want it. I think this is the hardest we’ve ever worked to be honest,” March said. “All of us are hungry and ready to go. We need to get it done this year.”
