Wrestlers in three divisions — boys, girls and youth — competed in the Duals on Desmond All-Star Wrestling Showcase on Saturday, an outdoor wrestling competition in Sayre. The event pits Pennsylvania wrestlers against New York standouts.
The area was well represented as well in the outdoor event. The event began in 2024 and is held on Desmond Street in Sayre.
Pennsylvania defeated New York, 45-23, in the boys division and the Pennsylvania girls earned a narrow 48-45 win against New York.
In the youth division, New York secured a 54-39 win.
In boys competition, Hughesville’s Mason Mordan had a solid match at 160 by out-battling Assac Mead of New York for a narrow 5-4 decision victory.

Mordan, who will wrestle at King’s College in the winter, finished 45-15 last winter and reached the state tournament. Mordan took silver at the Central Sectional tournament at 160, took fourth at districts and fourth at regionals to qualify for Hershey.
Mordan was one of two Spartans to compete in the event.
At 138, Hughesville’s Chase Shaner wrestled New York’s Jayden Duncanson and, like Mordan, also secured a victory. Shaner earned a 4-1 decision against Duncanson.
Shaner had an outstanding career at Hughesville, becoming the program’s all-time wins leader with 139 after going 38-13 as a senior. He was a three-time state qualifier and this past winter took silver at sectionals, bronze at districts and fourth at regionals. He will wrestle in the winter at Penn College.
Williamson freshman Zander Wilson earned a major decision at 121. The Warrior majored Tanner Knapp of New York, 15-7. Wilson had an outstanding freshman season by going 43-3, taking gold at sectionals and districts, bronze at regionals and reached the state tournament although he didn’t medal.

At 113, Williamson’s Walker Hyde decisioned Avery Bowman of New York for a 15-13 victory. Hyde finished 28-10 this past year as a freshman and took fifth at the North Sectional tournament.
Warrior Run’s Noah Johnson picked up a victory at 285. The Defender earned a 4-1 decision over New York’s Jack Brown. The Defender, a junior, finished 25-16 this past year with a second-place finish at sectionals, fifth-place finish at districts and fifth-place finish at regionals.
At 190, Wellsboro’s Ryder Bowen lost a 19-11 major decision contest to New York’s Hunter Lavigne, Bowen, a senior this past season, had his best year by going 32-8 with a gold medal at sectionals, fourth at districts and sixth at regionals. All three medals were his highest-ever finishes at each respective tournament.
In the girls competition, Hughesville standout Julia Ritter picked up a win in her matchup at 106 pounds against New York’s Lilly Gullo and secured a 12-6 decision victory. Ritter was a state qualifier this past winter by placing second at districts and fourth at regionals while going 23-12.
Williamsport’s Mykia Petruskevich saw success at the duals and picked up a second-period win. With time ticking down, Petruskevich was able to secure a fall over Tayah Beah of New York in 3:53 at 124. The Millionaire went 25-9 last season at 124 but did not place at districts.

Petruskevich was one of two Millionaires in girls competition. Also wrestling was standout Lillian Rumsey, a third-place state finalist. Rumsey wrestled at 115 against New York’s Teegan Sibble, but saw Sibble walk away with a narrow 11-9 decision win against the Millionaire. Last season, Rumsey finished an impressive 40-1 while taking gold at districts and regionals and bronze for a second straight year at states in PIAA-sanctioned competition.
Jersey Shore’s Isabella Gotschall competed at 170 and was pinned by New York’s Elona Holmes in 1:37. The Bulldog was a sophomore this past season and went 28-7 en route to a silver medal at districts and a sixth-place medal at the regional tournament.
Milton’s Adelyn Bush was pinned in 25 seconds at 136 against New York’s Nadia Rose. Bush was a Central Regional qualifier this past winter and took fourth at districts with a 24-14 record.
