Crosscutters drop eighth straight game, fall to Scrappers 11-3

A change from the usual evening start to an early morning game was not the change needed to spark the Williamsport Crosscutters as they suffered their eighth consecutive loss to start the month of July. Williamsport lost at Eastwood Field in Mahoning Valley, 11-3, to the Scrappers.

Williamsport’s offense only managed four hits with a double from Amman Dewberry, two singles from Max Mandler and a single from Ryan Kennell in a pinch-hit situation. Dewberry, Mandler and Joey Parliament each recorded a run for Williamsport while Mandler and Jack Lausch had the two RBIs in the contest.

Williamsport pitcher Cade Davis, a Bloomsburg graduate, started and took the loss to fall to 1-3 after being unable to complete the first inning. Davis went two-thirds of the first and gave up five runs, four earned, with a walk and no strikeouts.

With the loss, Williamsport falls to 12-15 in the first half of the MLB Draft League season and are at risk of being eliminated from first-half championship contention pending the results from Wednesday evening. Williamsport will look to avoid its fourth straight series sweep on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Scrappers.

On Tuesday night, Williamsport fell to Mahoning Valley 7-4. The Crosscutters had 10 hits in Tuesday’s loss, led by multi-hit games from Michael Zarrillo (2 for 5) and Christian Reyes (2 for 3), who entered the game in place of starting catcher Matt FLaherty. Matthew Bardowell had the only extra-base hit on Tuesday with a double.

Connor Markham, who likely made his final start for Williamsport on Tuesday in the first half fo the season, went the first three innings and gave up three runs on two hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
