Lyco men’s, women’s teams earn ITA All-Academic team

Both Lycoming’s men’s and women’s tennis teams took home ITA All-Academic team honors on Thursday. It’s the fifth straight year for both programs earning honors.

On the women’s side, six student-athletes — sophomore Abigail Degnan, senior Dillon Hutchinson-Thomas, junior Greta Kimble (a South Williamsport graduate), freshman Reyna Kirick, senior Rei Saar (a Montoursville graduate) and senior Sarah Lanphear earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status.

On the men’s side, seniors Mohamed Ebeid and Matthew Baldridge, junior Luke Taylor (a Williamsport native) and freshman Kayvan Shams (a South Williamsport graduate) earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the team’s roster and have competed in one or more varsity matches were included in the team GPA. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

This is the 17th straight year that a student-athlete from the women’s tennis program earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Lanphear and Saar earned the award for a fourth time, Kimble earned the ticket for a third time, Ebel a second time and Hutchinson-Thomas and Kirick earned the award for a first time.

Ebeid picked up the honors for a fourth time and Baldridge, Taylor and Shams earned it for the first time on the men’s side. The Lycoming men’s tennis team finished 0-16 overall and 0-9 in the Landmark under third-year coach Joel Reid.

A total of 1,271 Division III women’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 167 women’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. A total of 1,115 Division III men’s student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 135 men’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
