Local roundup: Local roundup: Logan Edmonds scores twice as Sock boys beat Sullivan
Loyalsock scored twice in a four-minute span early in the first half and added three goals in the second half to blank Sullivan County, 5-0, to open the season in boys soccer.
Logan Edmonds led the Lancers with two goals scored. Christian Scampone, Ethan Boyer and Gabriel DePrenda both added goals while Caleb Hartsock and Wesley Johnson had assists.
In goal, Connor Langg had eight saves to record the shutout.
Wellsboro defeated Galeton, 5-1. David Seeling recorded a hat trick and had an assist for the Green Hornets. Jonathan Carl scored twice for Wellsboro.
“We talked about getting out to an early lead and that’s what the boys did again tonight, putting together a nice string of passes to get a goal within the first 5-6 minutes of the game,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said. “I was pleased with the team’s mindset and determination throughout the march.”
In goal, Camden Tom had four saves.
Muncy was shut out against Northumberland Christian, 7-0. Northumberland Christian led just 2-0 at the half before scoring five second-half goals to put the game out of reach.
Muncy had just three shots on goal as Bodie Moyer recorded 10 saves.
Bryce Winslow recorded a hat trick to propel Montoursville’s boys soccer team to a 4-1 win against Milton. Winslow scored just three minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.
Orrie Godown would score a minute before halftime to tie the game.
In the second half, Winslow scored twice in a five-minute span before Simon Dietrich made it a three-goal lead with three minutes to play.
Mason Fry recorded three saves in goal for the Warriors while Lois Williams had two for Milton.
• Muncy’s girls soccer team defeated Millville, 3-1, to start the season with a win.. Ava Eyer, Mikaila Ganoe and Zoe Kunkle all scored for the Indians against Millville. Alexis McKeta added two assists while Ella Nagel had an assist. In goal, Eva Nagel had six saves
Sullivan County opened the year with a convincing 8-0 win against Elk Lake on the road.
The Griffins came out strong and scored in the first five minutes. Senior Lily McCarty had a hat trick with two assists. Sophia Livezey and Quinn Pennella, both freshmen, combined for four goals, three of which coming from Pennella.
Pennella and Alana Olson both added an assist.
Mariah Hallabuk had her first shutout of the season with 11 saves.
Wellsboro blanked North Penn-Mansfield, 3-0, in a Northern Tier showdown. Ella Boyce had a goal and assist for the Green Hornets while Luna Moyer and Haylie Smith both scored. The Green Hornets out-shot Mansfield, 13-4.
“I’m really proud of the team’s effort tonight. We controlled the middle of the field well and created consistent pressure, whcih led to 13 shots on goal,” Wellsboro coach Michael Reese said. “Ella, Luna and Haylie each had great finishes, but what stod out most was how everyone worked together to set up those chances and keep the tempo of the game in our favor. I’m also pleased with our defensive effort, earning our second consecutive shutout, which shows the focus and determination this group is playing with.”
Jadyn Dunlap had four saves to record the shutout while Avalon Rew recorded nine in the loss for Mansfield.
Warrior Run and Danville battled to a double overtime 1-1 draw in a solid game in Turbotville. The Defenders out-shot Danville, 22-9.
Danville scored in the 25th minute to go ahead 1-0. Warrior Run’s Maura Woland scored off an assist by Nat Hall, however, nine minutes later to tie the game. Neither team would be able to score the game-winner in regulation or either overtime periods.
• Loyalsock secured a 5-0 win in girls tennis against Muncy on the road. Caroline Crawford beat Zoe Dohl at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, it was Loyalsock’s Gia Biacchi who defeated Lola Fox, 6-3, 6-0. And at No. 3 singles, the Lancers’ Vivian Reem won over Miah Nicodemus, 6-0, 6-0.
At Montgomery’s Queen of the Court Tournament, Montoursville defeated Cowanesque Valley, 5-0. Elsa Kehrer won at No. 1 singles against Makenna Burdick, 6-1, 6-1, and at No. 2 singles, it was the Warriors’ Ali Ravert who beat Elizabeth Blackwell, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Montoursville’s Kenna Vought and Mya Wilson won 6-0, 6-0 over Madisyn Sawyer and Lexi Brown. Montoursville’s Ava Barto and Analiese Crossen beat Cailin Potter and Ella Reed, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
Williamsport fell to Danville, 5-0. Audrey Dincher of Williamsport lost at No. 1 singles to Josie Bendle, 6-1, 6-1, and at No. 3 singles, Lilly Judge fell to Alexa Preisz, 6-1, 6-1.
Williamsport’s Gianna Vitko and Caroline Pelly battled tough at No. 2 doubles but fell to Ellen Penna and Siyah Bhanushali, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2 (10-7).
Jersey Shore’s girls tennis team fell against Selinsgrove in a tight matchup, 3-2. The Bulldogs won two out of the three singles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Josie Gerst beat Alexis Hoot, 7-5, 6-0. The Bulldogs’ Julia Herman beat Talia Mowery, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 singles, Jersey Shore’s Molly Dalton lost in three seats to Mia Bassler. After Dalton won the first set, 7-5, Bassler rallied to win 6-4, 6-3 to close it out and help secure the win.
Azlyn Guerrero and Rylee Allison of Jersey Shore fell to Madison Maneval and Anna Yang at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-1. Jersey Shore’s Mya Lehman and Emily Shemory lost at No. 2 doubles in three sets to Ashlyn Lehman and Emily Longacre, 6-2, 6-7 (1-7), 6-1.
• Williamsport fell to Berwick in girls volleyball, 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-16). Belle Morrow led the Millionaires with 10 points and added eight kills while also having a team-high 12 assists. Pippy Keiser, Avani Rainier and Peyton Dincher each had nine points and Rainier added nine kills.
Williamsport saw Rainier lead the Millionaires with 13 digs while Mollie Roan added nine.
• South Williamsport earned a 15-47 win in girls cross country against Wellsboro at Wellsboro. Aubriella Oeler was the top finisher as she ran a time of 15:15.31 for South Williamsport. The Mounties took the top 6 spots as Ella Neufer took second (15:59.88) and Piper Askey (16:16.79) was third. Wellsboro’s top finisher was Summer Boder, who ran a 17:58.29 for seventh place.
• In boys cross country competition, Wellboro had nine of the top 10 finishers. A team score was not available.
The Green Hornets’ Max Macias won with a time of 19:20.59 and Henry Whitney ran a time of 20:03.65. South Williamsport’s top finisher was Adam Kuriga who took third in 22:49.10.
