Local roundup: South boys soccer opens year 1-1 at tournament

South Williamsport went 1-1 to begin the season at the Hughesville Tournament in boys soccer on Saturday.
The Mounties lost the opener to Northumberland Christian, 5-0, before rebounding for a 7-0 rout over Troy later in the day.
Against Northumberland Christian, Dylan Webb of South Williamsport recorded 15 saves. In the win over Troy, Gavin Freas had a hat trick while Davis Pace scored twice. South Williamsport led 2-0 five minutes into the game and scored four second-half goals.
Dylan Webb was in goal and had three saves for the shutout.
Orrie Godown opened the season for Milton with a hat trick to propel the Black Panthers to a 3-2 win against Mifflinburg. The Black Panthers held a 2-0 lead in the first half as Godown scored twice in an eight-minute span.
Mifflinburg’s Dylan Siegel scored both of the Wildcats’ goals in the second half to tie the game in the 75th minute before Godown put Milton ahead a minute later.
Braeden Callmell scored three goals to lift Williamsport to a 4-1 win against North Penn-Liberty. Liberty’s Deakon Valentine recorded six saves.
Two first-half goals from Reese Warner and Lily McGonigal helped lift Central Mountain to a 2-1 win over Bald Eagle Area in girls soccer.
Bald Eagle Area cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second half when Aiyanna Henninger scored off an assist by Madilyn Jones.
Central Mountain out-shot Bald Eagle Area, 9-6 as Alyssa Ford of the Wildcats recorded five saves.
• Montgomery defeated Wellsboro in girls tennis, 5-0. Cali Barnes secured a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Red Raiders.
In doubles’ action, Arianna Snyder and Lainie Solano won at No. 1 doubles for Montgomery over Logan Root and Serenity Mosher, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Avelyn Moore and Emily Miller beat Piper Anderegg and Rowan Butters, 6-2, 6-2.
Hughesville moved to 3-0 by defeating Milton, 4-1. Georgia Randall earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Emily Waltman. At No. 2 singles, Rebecca Roberts beat Emma King, 6-0, 6-1.
Milton’s win came at No. 3 singles where Carrie King beat Talia Saka, 6-3, 6-7, 7-4.
