Local roundup: Williamsport girls soccer beats State College in thriller 3-2 in OT

Williamsport’s girls soccer team played a thriller on Saturday morning by defeating State College in overtime, 3-2, within the first five minutes.

The Millionaires’ Mylee Bennett fed Breah Phillips a ball five minutes into overtime to score the game-winning goal.

Deborah Shultz and Loisa Hofstrom both had a goal and assist for Williamsport as well. The Millionaires out-shot State College, 21-5, in the win, as McKylee Vollman recorded three saves.

Reagan Brouse, Nat Hall and Katie Zaktansky all recorded goals, in the first half, as Warrior Run defeated Line Mountain at home in Turbotville, 3-0. Zaktansky and Hall each added assists as well.

Zaktansky fed Brouse 10 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead before Hall buried a corner kick just two minutes later for a fast 2-0 lead.

In goal, Chloe Burden recorded seven saves for the Defenders for the shutout.

Katy Schmeck played well for State College with 18 saves.

Haylie Smith and Luna Moyer both scored goals to help Wellsboro blank Port Allegany, 2-0. Kate Bryant added an assist for the Green Hornets.

In goal, Jadyn Dunlap recorded three saves for the shutout.

• Christian Berwanger and Colton Beadle both recorded hat tricks as Montoursville cruised to a 9-1 win against Troy at home in boys soccer. The Warriors led 4-0 at the half and scored five in the second half.

Quin Winslow added four assists for the Warriors.

Isaac Ayres scored a game less than four minutes into the second half off an assist by Keegan Crosby to give Lewisburg a 1-0 win against Dallas. The Green Dragons dominated the game from start to finish with a 22-1 shots advantage.

Gabe Pawling was in goal for Lewisburg and had a save to preserve the shutout.

Jersey Shore fell to Juniata, 4-0. Abe Paulhamus recorded eight saves as the Bulldogs were held to just four shots on goal.

The Bulldogs trailed just 1-0 at halftime, but three second-half goals by Juniata put the game out of reach.

Dylan Sherman scored a goal off a Jackson Wilver assist, but Montgomery fell behind in the first half and couldn’t claw back en route to a 5-1 loss to Northeast Bradford. The Red Raiders trailed at the half, 3-1.

Conor Irwin had eight saves for Montgomery.

• In girls volleyball action, Williamsport traveled to Montoursville for the PHAC Tournament and went undefated until they dropped two sets in the finals to Central Mountain. Williamsport finished second in the tournament.

Avani Rainier ended the day with an outstanding 60 points while Peyton Dincher had 34 points, Belle Morrow had 28 and Pippy Kieser had 26. Ava Fischer also had 19 for Williamsport.

Morrow led the Millionaires with 34 kills while Rainier had 25 and Fischer posted 19. Fischer had a team-high 34 digs, Mollie Roan posted 17, Morrow had 15 and Rainier added 13.

Libby Radspinner had a solid performance on Saturday with 45 assists total while Morrow added eight. Morrow also had six assisted blocks and four solo.

• Muncy defeated Milton in overtime, 2-1, in girls field hockey. Evelyn Nidermeyer scored the Indians’ first goal in the second corner off a corner and was assisted by Selah Persing.

In overtime, it was Muncy’s Rosie Zalnois scored early to secure the win. Maddy Price had nine saves for Muncy.

• Three Lycoming College women’s soccer first-year players accounted for five goals to lead the team as it overcame an early deficit to post an 8-3 win over Buffalo State.

Freshmen Gabriella Rabinowitz and Ashlee Magaro each posted two goals and freshman Alissa Kimes added one score to pace the Warrior offense, which took just 14 shots to score eight goals.

Buffalo State (1-1 overall) got on the board in the 10th minute before Lycoming (2-0 overall) responded with four goals before halftime, one from junior Kaitlyn Born on a give from sophomore Ella Magee, before a Warrior corner led to an own goal to give Lycoming the lead in the 18th minute. Rabinowitz struck twice in the half’s last seven minutes, the second score on a give from senior Abigail Umhoefer.

• Despite getting two more shots off, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team fell to Widener University, 1-0, in non-conference action. Michael Buckley scored the lone goal for the Pride (1-1 overall).

Junior Aidan Stillman led the Warriors (0-2 overall) with three shots.

Sophomore Jace Bennett stopped three shots in net for the Warriors. Tristan Willey had four saves in the shutout for the Pride, as he faced 10 Lycoming shots.

• Freshman Kamryn Skeath posted 14 kills, 19 assists, 18 digs, four aces and three blocks to lead the Lycoming College women’s volleyball team, which notched a 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20) win over Penn State-Hazleton, to wrap up the Tip-Off Tournament.

Freshman Emi Wenger added seven kills and 11 digs and junior Caroline Colucci added seven kills. Freshman Charlene Petreshock added six kills and eight digs and senior Cameron Upcraft added five kills and five blocks.

Junior Haley Balgavy added 18 assists and five digs and junior Ima Mercado added 21 digs and five aces.

Penn College women’s volleyball defeated Baruch, 3-1, to earn its first win of the season in the Wildcats final match of the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 1-3 on the year following its first tournament of the season.

Against Baruch, the Wildcats posted set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20 to earn the match victory. Ellen Banfill recorded six kills and finished with a .333 hitting percentage while Haylie Thomsen hit .286 with five aces and three kills. Lilly Stockum racked up 11 kills and five aces to lead the offense while Banfill dished out 16 assist and Nashalie Vializ posted 17 digs in the victory.

Against Utica, Penn College started the morning off with a three-set defeat against the Pioneers, 25-11, 25-14, 25-19. Stockum had a team-high 10 kills.
