Mansfield announces its 15-member recruiting class
MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Mountaineer field hockey team and 11th year head coach Brittany Hansrote welcome 15 new members to the program as the Mounties start their preparations for the 2025 campaign.
Thirteen freshmen and two transfer students who began with the team in the spring make up the recruiting group, spanning from three different states. Hansrote, a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Coach of the Year, found strength at all position points, bringing in her first double-digit class since 2020.
“This fall, we’re excited to welcome 15 new athletes to our program — 13 freshmen and two transfers. Our incoming freshmen hail from three different states and represent all field positions. Impressively, seven of them earned all-state honors, showcasing the high level of talent joining our roster. We’re also thrilled to officially add Katie and Kiley, two experienced transfers who bring both strong skill sets and high hockey IQ,” Hansrote said. “After training with us this past spring, they’re already integrated into our team culture, and I’m eager to see them compete this season.”
The recruiting class consists of forward Kylee Boardman (Shippensburg), midfielder Evangeline Brad (Williamstown, New Jersey), goalie Natalie Burnick (Cocalico), defender Jordan Brunnabend (Parkland), midfielder Sophia Castaldo (Endicott, New York), midfielder Kyleigh Hinson (Spring Grove), midfielder Ava Mondulick (Wilkes-Barre), midfielder Amanda Ray (Deposit, New York), goalie Gabrielle Rogerson (Biglerville), defender Kelsey Sears (Burlington Township, New Jersey), midfielder Emma Shaw (Lackawanna Trail), defender Maggie Smith (Dallas), midfielder Libby Stephenson (Bishop McDevitt), midfielder Kylie Stoltzfus (Bishop McDevitt), and midfielder Katie Thomas (Bishop Shanahan).
Key players return to the program as the team looks poised for another great season. The reigning PSAC Freshman of the Year, Jenna Duke, capped off her All-PSAC Second Team season by leading the team in goals (12), assists (4), points (28), shots on goal (37), and game-winning goals (3). Melanie Esh returns as the other All-PSAC member, earning her first conference accolade after her breakout sophomore season, posting career highs in multiple categories en route to her Second Team nod. Ella d u Plessis starts her senior season as a crucial part of the attackers, contributing the second most goals, assists, shots on goal, and shots last season for the red and black.
“We return eight of our 11 starters from last fall and made significant progress during the spring season,” Hansrote added. “As we continue to build on last year’s momentum, this incoming class is poised to both complement and elevate our returning group.”
Mansfield comes off another highlight season, as the Mounties secured their first back-to-back postseason berths and first PSAC Freshman of the Year in program history. The Mountaineers entered the first national poll and remained nationally ranked all season, while cementing two All-Americans and four All-Conference members.
The Mountaineers open the regular season with the annual Dr. Art DeGenaro Classic tournament hosted on Karl Van Norman Field. This two-day, four-team classic starts with Mansfield hosting Saint Michael’s College on Saturday, September 6 at 11 a.m.
