Hughesville and Williamsport went into the half tied at 1-all after both teams scored within three minutes of each other late in the first 40 minutes.

It looked like the game was going to end up being a close, tight contest down to the wire.

But coming out of halftime, Hughesville’s offense clicked and sparked.

“Once we were able to settle down and find our feet, the opportunities really started to open up,” Hughesville coach Cody Hack said.

The Spartans scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half en route to a 4-1 win over Williamsport at home under the lights.

Katelyn Temple scored off an Aly Taggart assist in the 33rd minute to put the Spartans up 1-0 before Lousia Hofstrom scored three minutes later to tie the game just before halftime.

In the second half, Temple would again score, this time off an assist from sister Kylie in the 44th minute. Less than two minutes later, Katelyn Temple found Sierra Dewire for a 3-1 lead and shifted momentum away from Williamsport.

Hughesville’s final goal came from Aly Taggart who scored off a Katelyn Temple assist.

“Being able to get offensive production out of your entire 11 is always a plus,” Hack said of the team having three players score.

It was a solid performance from Katelyn Temple, who ended the game with two goals and two assists.

In goal, Jasmine Caputo played well for the Spartans by recording seven saves. McKylee Vollman posted an 11-save performance for the Millionaires as Hughesville out-shot Williamsport, 18-8.

“Williamsport had some opportunities that our back line and keeper were able to smother,” Hack said. “Their goal came from a beautiful ball after a minor defensive mistake we made. But again, once we settled down, we were able to play the game at our pace.”
