Bald Eagles have tough test vs. ranked Cal

After an exciting 16-15 win kicked off the season, Lock Haven struggled putting up points at Indiana (Pa.) last week as the Crimson Hawks beat Lock Haven, 42-10, extending a win streak against the Bald Eagles that dates to 1982.

While the Bald Eagles are looking to shake off that 32-point loss, the schedule doesn’t do Lock Haven any favors as the Bald Eagles head to No. 8th-ranked California (Pa.) today for a noon kickoff.

The Vulcans are 2-0 with a win against No. 12th-ranked Charleston (West Virginia), 23-19 and a narrow 26-24 win over West Chester. This is the third straight home game for the Vulcans to open the season.

California (Pa.) has a solid rushing attack with the 1-2 punch of Bobbie Boyd Jr. (187 yards on 32 carries) and Roman Purcell (118 on 28) as the duo have rushed for three touchdowns as well. Purcell is a solid dual-threat as well as he is 32 for 53 for 256 passing yards. He has yet to throw a passing touchdown this year.

Johnson D’Avay has been Purcell’s leading receiving target with 108 yards on nine catches, someone the Bald Eagles’ corners and secondaries will know they have to attempt to limit.

Against Indiana (Pa.) last week, the Bald Eagles trailed just 14-7 at one point in the second quarter following a 70-yard interception return by Troy Miller, but the Crimson Has would outscore Lock Haven the rest of the way, 28-3.

Jackson Ostrowsky finished with just 130 passing yards and the Bald Eagles’ run game never got established as Ezequiel Johnson had just 17 yards on the ground to lead the team. Through two games, Johnson has 107 rushing yards and Ostrowsky has thrown for 320, but has not yet thrown a passing touchdown.

Lock Haven has been able to put pressure on teams defensively. Rocco Daugherty, JahCure Maxam, Benjamin Carey, LucRichard Rameau and Izaiah Scott all have a sack and Markel Morgan and Miller both have recorded two pass break ups.

Lock Haven will have to play superb if it wants to upset California (Pa.) on Saturday and snap a 13-game losing streak to the Vulcans. Lock Haven’s last win against California (Pa.) came in 2003 (30-25).

Starting at $2.99/week.
