CM girls tennis falls on road at Danville

TIM WEIGHTx/Special to the Sun-Gazette CM’s Addison Lindsay returns a volley during a match this season.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Central Mountain girls tennis team traveled to face PHAC foe Danville (5-0). The result was a disappointing loss for the Wildcats, who fell by a score of 4-1 in the league match.
Central Mountain’s No. 1 singles player, Addison Lindsay, was the lone victor for the Wildcats through the match, sweeping her first set against Danville’s Josie Bendle before winning her second set, 6-2.
Apart from Lindsay, No. 2 singles player Lucy Walker and No. 2 doubles duo Tess Akeley and Leah Wian each put together strong efforts to give the team a shot.
Walker won her first set against a strong opponent in Danville’s Gyovanna Sundaresan and narrowly lost in the second, 7-5. And in a match that spanned 35 games and one tiebreaker, Akeley and Wian bounced back from a first-set loss, extending the match to three with a 7-5, second-set victory. They’d force a tiebreaker in the third, falling just short in the end.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back on Thursday, again competing on the road. Their next match comes against PHAC foe Williamsport.
