Football roundup: Williamsport falls to Shikellamy, Montgomery and Muncy both win
Shikellamy scored 28 first-half points and held off Williamsport for a 35-14 win in Week 4 of football action on Friday night.
The Millionaires held a 14-7 lead going into the second quarter, but wouldn’t be able to score any more points the rest of the way.
After Thomas Pollock had a 97-yard kickoff return to open the game and give the Braves a 7-0 lead, Williamsport responded on its ensuing drive with a 55-yard touchdown strike from Tevin Williams to Giovanni White to tie the game with 10:18 left in the first.
Williams would score on a 7-yard run for a 14-7 lead with 1:36 left in the first quarter.
But Shikellamy would reclaim the lead in the second quarter thanks to scoring three touchdowns in the final 6:41, including a strike from Brody Rebuck to Pollock from 25 yard sout with 20 seconds left to make it a 28-14 halftime lead.
Giovanni White led Williamsport with 69 rushing yards while Williams went 8 for 16 for 115 passing yards.
While Williamsport played well defensively — the Millionaires limited the Braves to 113 rushing yards and 115 passing yards — Williamsport wasn’t able to score when needed.
Rebuck led Shikellamy with 128 rushing yards on 19 carries and Rebuck threw for 82 yards.
MONTGOMERY 28, WYALUSING 6
Montgomery out-gained Wyalusing by 200 yards offensively and cruised to a 28-6 win against the Rams in Week 4.
Trace Furman helped Montgomery win as he carried it 17 times for 115 yards and a touchdown while Josh Knoebel had nine rushes for 50 yards and a score. In the air, Parker Persing went 3 for 3 for 60 yards.
Wyalusing went ahead first in the first quarter on a 36-yard touchdown strike from Reuben Kinney to Andrew Taylor, 6-0. But Montgomery struck three minutes later when Persing found Furman for a 29-yard touchdown pass and took a 7-6 lead.
That lead gave Montgomery the lead for good as Wyalusing didn’t score again.
Persing would have a 3-yard third-quarter score before Knoebel scored from 20 yards out in the fourth quarter. Furman then had a 23-yard touchdown run in the fourth with 3:20 to play to go ahead by 22 points and ice the game.
MUNCY 35, NORTHWEST 0
Muncy scored a touchdown in each quarter and defeated Northwest on the road, 35-0.
Andrew Walters had five total touchdowns in the win. Walters threw a 61-yard touchdown to Nate Rogers in the first quarter before running in a five-yard score for a 13-0 first-quarter lead.
In the second quarter, Walters found Dominic Guardini for an 11-yard touchdown pass and Walters had a touchdown run of 10 and five yards in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Walters went 13 for 17 for 222 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 36 yards and three scores. Wes Somits had 50 rushing yards on six carries. Rogers had 97 receiving yards and a score and Gavin Barrows had four receptions for 41 yards.
WELLBORO 33, TOWANDA 12
Wellsboro gained 392 yards of offense e route to a 33-12 win against Towanda at home.
The Green Hornets led 13-0 in the first quarter and held a 19-9 lead at the half. But Wellsboro pulled away with a 14-point fourth quarter to seal the win.
Reed Richardson had an 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter before Max Mascho caught a 50-yard touchdown from Griffin Morral with 4:40 to left in the first quarter.
Brayden Spencer kicked a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter and Mascho had an 11-yard run with two minutes until halftime.
Morral had a solid performance at quarterback by going 7 for 13 for 190 yards with two touchdowns. Morral ran for 112 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown, averaging 10.2 yards per carry. Marek Mascho added 88 rushing yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown.
