Golf tip of the week: Creating a good tempo

PHOTO PROVIDED Divide the total swing time by two.

A slow swing doesn’t necessarily mean a golfer possesses a good tempo. Slowing down the backswing can cause an uneven tempo, resulting in the body being off balance on the downswing.

A good tempo can be fast or slow. An excellent swing thought is to divide the total swing time by two. For example, if a golfer’s total swing time is two seconds, the backswing should be one second and the downswing one second.

If a golfer has a total swing time of fewer than two seconds, they may have to take the club back faster, not slower.

Experimenting with how fast you should take the back may help you enjoy this great game called golf even more.
