Local roundup: CM boys soccer falls in close game vs. Lewisburg 3-1
Central Mountain played Lewisburg tough en route to a 3-1 loss to the Green Dragons. Central Mountain cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second half by scoring a goal just 22 seconds after Lewisburg went ahead 2-0. But the Green Dragons went back ahead by two when Keegan Crosby scored with 12:35 to play.
Viktor Permyashkin and Isaac Ayres scored for Lewisburg and Central Mountain’s goal came from Cole Cooper off a penalty kick.
Williamsport scored two second-half goals to defeat Jersey Shore on the road, 4-3. Connor Hofstrom scored both second-half goals for the Millionaires to secure the win after Jersey Shore led 3-2 thanks to two goals in a five-minute span late in the first half.
Dumfer Adjei-Frimpong had a goal and Hofstrom ended the day with a hat trick. Gabe Welshans scored twice for the Bulldogs with an assist and Ezra Paulhamus had a goal. The Millionaires also saw Isaac Balza and Charles Plummer add assists.
Montoursville and Warrior Run battled for 100 minutes, but neither team scored a game winner in the two overtime periods as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie. Ethan Balzar gave Warrior Run a lead before Bryce Winslow tied it up at 1-all.
Wellsboro defeated North Penn-Liberty, 2-0. Colin Fletcher and Jacob Smith scored for the Green Hornets.
“We increased our shots on goal and corner kicks, while reducing theirs, since our last meeting,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said. “Our attackers finished two opportunities and our keeper and defensive line recorded another clean sheet. It was a good way to begin our stretch of league games.”
Bodie Moyer made 16 saves in goal for Muncy but Benton took control in the second half and won, 4-0.
Milton scored two goals to close the first half out and two to begin the second half, but Danville would earn a 5-4 double overtime win against the Black Panthers. Adam Elbetagy tied the game in the 74th minute and put away the game winner in the 92nd minute
Milton’s goals came from Caleb Langdon, Tristan Steiner, Trent Dlong and Aaron Parker and Gavin Folmar had two assists.
• In girls volleyball, Williamsport secured a 3-0 win against Danville at the Magic Dome, 25-7, 26-24, 26-18.
Pippy Keiser had a team-high 16 points, Peyton Dincher had 15 and Belloe Morrow had 11. Geiani Whaley had 10 points. Morrow led Williamsport with 14 kills, Whaley had eight and both Ava Fischer and Kieser posted six.
Williamsport also saw Molly Roan lead the team with eight digs and Libby Radspinner post 16 assists. Morrow had 14 assists.
• Hughesville won all five matches in straight sets, dropping just nine games along the way as it blanked Wellsboro, 5-0. The Spartans improved to 13-1 as Georgia Randall, Rebecca Roberts and Talia Saka won in singles. Gracie Budman and Caroline Hicks, as well as Carly Sones and Shelby Myers, convincingly won their doubles matches.
Josie Gerst, Julia Herman and Molly Dalton swept the singles matches, helping Jersey Shore defeat Shikellamy, 3-2. All three players won in straight sets, Gerst and Herman dropping just four combined games.
Elsa Kehrer won an exciting No. 1 singles match for Montoursville against Milton, winning a third set tiebreaker, 10-5. Milton, however, won 4-1, sweeping the other matches. Emma and Carrie King won in singles as did the doubles teams of Maddie Coup and Elliott Brosious and Mya Wilson and Kenna Vought.
• Junior Norah Mosley notched a goal and an assist to lead the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, which used a four-goal first half to power past Penn State-Abington, 5-2, for its ninth straight win.
The Warriors (9-0 overall) scored twice in the first 15 minutes, with junior Abigail Umhoefer breaking the ice in the eighth minute before Mosley found first-year Gabriella Rabinowitz for her seventh goal of the season in the 14th minute.
Sydney Linus scored the game’s first goal and goalie Megan Miller made eight saves, but Millersville rallied for a 2-1 win against the Lock Haven women’s soccer team.
• After a scoreless first quarter, the Lycoming College field hockey team scored three times in the second quarter and twice more in the third as they cruised to a 6-0 victory over Lancaster Bible College.
Lycoming (5-2) has won three straight games, including back-to-back shutouts, with the win over Lancaster Bible (2-4) following up a 2-0 blanking of Cedar Crest on Saturday.
There was no scoring in the first quarter, but the Warriors broke through in the second, with junior Carmen Hannon depositing her second goal in as many contests just under 22 minutes into the contest. Barely four minutes later, first-year Laurel Fite also scored for a second game in a row and the third time this season, off an assist from senior Riley Marines. Finally, sophomore Lacy Eckard, a Muncy graduate, scored an impressive unassisted goal at the 28:41 mark, her third of the season, to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Mansfield, ranked seventh, dropped a 3-2 decision against No. 5 West Chester. Jenna Duke and Kaylie Ranere scored for Mansfield and Lydia Miller made seven saves.
• Freshmen Trey Lesperance and Ryan Ault, a Jersey Shore graduate, finished second and third with a 77 and a 78, respectively, to lead the Lycoming College golf team to a tri-match win over King’s College and Misericordia University at the 6,178-yard, par-71 Wyoming Valley Country Club.
