Local roundup: Eck goal leads Loyalsock boys soccer past South Williamsport
In a deadlocked, defensive duel on Saturday, Dylan Eck scored the eventual game winner when he headed the ball into the net deep in the second half, helping the Loyalsock boys soccer team defeat South Williamsport, 1-0.
In goal, Lang Connor had five saves, allowing the Lancers to take home the shutout victory. And for the Mounties, Dylan Webb logged a game-high 14 saves to keep his team in it until the final whistle.
At Muncy’s annual field hockey tournament on Saturday, the Indians took second while Benton claimed gold and Danville placed third.
Muncy played Benton first and lost 2-1, with its lone goal being scored by Selah Persing and assisted on Rosie Zalonis. Maddy Price was in goal and had eight saves, and saved a penalty stroke.
To close out the tournament, Muncy played Danville and won by a score of 4-0. Rosie Zalonis and Selah Pesing scored its first two goals, both being assisted by Avery Waldman. Zalonis added another goal later in the game. And scoring the last goal of the game was Aliza Holmes.
Marlee Gair, Abielle Nidermyer, Grace Hogan and Rosie Zalonis were all selected for the all-tournament team.
Madison Friend knotted the game at one in the third period and the Lock Haven field hockey team forced overtime, but Ball State scored the game-winning goal in the extra period to win, 2-1, in a non-conference game on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half, Ball State struck first to go up 1-0 in the 31st minute. However, Friend found the back of the cage 12 minutes later for the equalizing goal off an assist from Molly Lynch.
Neither team could seal the win in the fourth quarter, but Ball State scored the clincher in overtime to steal the victory at home.
Lock Haven keeper Kelsey Felix was a huge factor in forcing overtime, as she held Ball State to just one goal in regulation, while finishing with a game-high 13 saves. On offense, The Haven finished with eight shots on goal, led by three from Melanie Beall and two each from Friend and Brynlee Pinschenat.
The Lock Haven golf team opened its 2025 fall season on Sunday by competing at the Misericordia Tri-Match on Sunday. Lock Haven won the day with an event-low team score of 373, with the tri-match also featuring Misericordia and FDU-Florham.
Lock Haven finished with a team score of 373 to claim the top spot, while Misericordia came in second with a score of 436 and FDU finished third with a score of 478. Morgan Gerringer, Hanna Kopac, Skylar Pentz, Bree Johnson and Macy Trostle made up the top-5 for Lock Haven. Gerringer and Trostle led the way for The Haven with individual scores of 88 and 89, respectively.

On Saturday, the Williamsport volleyball team was able to scrape out a 3-2 victory over Wellsboro in a back-and-forth bout. Though the Millionaires dropped two straight sets to go down 2-1, they fought their way back with set wins of 25-18 and 15-7 to take home the win.
Belle Morrow once again led the charge, compiling a team-leading 21 kills and five blocks while adding 11 digs and 12 assists – a volleyball triple-double. Tanaya Holmes led the team in points with 16, adding 12 digs. Mollie Roan led the team in digs with 15. And Libby Radspinner led the team in assists with 15.
