Local roundup: Lisembee scores twice as Muncy boys beat South Williamsport in Mid-Penn action
Kyran Lisembee had two goals and an assist to help Muncy’s boys soccer team defeat South Williamsport in a Mid-Penn game, 3-1. Gannon Swank scored in the 33rd minute to give Muncy a 1-0 lead going into the break.
Lisembee scored seven minutes into the second half for a 2-0 lead before Gavin Freas cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 54th minute.
Williamsport’s Max Fink recorded six saves in goal, but the Millionaires weren’t able to put in a goal offensively as Williamsport suffered a 3-0 loss against Shikellamy.
The Braves held an 8-4 shots-on-goal advantage as the Millionaires are now 2-4-1.
Montgomery lost a Mid-Penn contest to Millville, 4-0, as the Quakers improved to 8-1. Millville converted three penalty kicks in the first half for a 3-0 lead as Andrew Girton converted two and Curtis Whitmoyer scored once.
Millville got a fourth penalty kick in the second half by Shane Johnson, but Montgomery keeper Conor Irwin made an acrobatic save to keep it a 3-0 game. Millville’s fourth goal came with under a minute to play.
“We beat ourselves tonight with allowing them the opportunity to beat us from the spot. We had a lot of scoring opportunities however the ball did not bounce our way tonight,” Montgomery coach Mike Sherman said. “We only allowed one goal in open play and the match was closer than the score would indicate.”
Warrior Run defeated Mifflinburg, 3-0. The Defenders spread the ball around as Jesse Butler, Gideon Kennel and Ryan Kemock all scored goals. Ori Kennel had tow assists and Gideon Kennel had one.
In goal, Braego Cieslukowski posted two saves as the Warrior Run defense yielded just two shots on goal.
Central Mountain scored twice in the second half in a ten-minute span and the Wildcats blanked Milton, 2-0, to improve to 5-2-2.
The loss drops the Black Panthers to 3-5.
Dylan Bechdel scored in the 51st minute for a 1-0 Central Mountain lead before Yayfran Sanchez made it a 2-0 game in the 61st minute. Central Mountain out-shot Milton, 14-5.
Lewisburg and Midd-West, longtime rivals in District 4, put on a classic for fans as the two battled to a scoreless double overtime draw. Both teams fired seven shots on goal, but neither were able to get a goal through.
Gabe Pawling recorded seven saves for the Green Dragons and Derek Wert had seven for Midd-West.
• North Penn-Mansfield defeated Williamson, 1-0, as keeper Avalon Rew recorded her first shut out.
“She had an amazing tipping save over the crossbar in the second half off a Madalynn Bailey ripper of a shot,” North Penn-Mansfield coach Maryann Wilcox said.
Mansfield’s goal came in the 75th minute when Brooke Wilcox scored off an assist by Adalyne Yungwirth.
“Brooke Wilcox was able to break through the Williamson defense late in the second half off a pass from Adalyne Yungwirth to seal the win for the Lady Tigers,” coach Wilcox said.
Luna Moyer scored of an assist by Haylie Smith in the final minutes of the second half en route to a 1-0 win against Towanda at home.
The Green Hornets out-shot Towanda, 9-6.
“Our effort was incredible tonight. It was one of the most physical matches I’ve ever seen, but our girls never retaliated and kept their composure,” Wellsboro first-year coach Michael Reese said. “We created multiple chances and finally broke through late in the second half with great ball movement. I’m so proud and happy for the girls.”
• Central Mountain earned a 4-1 win against Shikellamy in girls tennis competition. Addison Lindsay continued her outstanding season by blanking Emory Underkoffler 6-0, 6-0, in straight sets.
Lane Walker of Central Mountain picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and at No.3. singles, Kassie Williams beat Emma Erdley, 6-1, 6-3.
Bucktail secured a 5-0 win against Cowanesque Valley. Eva Sockman defeated Mackenna Burdick at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and at No. 2 singles, Kendall Wagner defeated Holly Peters, 6-2, 6-1.
Lola English picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win for the Bucks at No. 3 singles over Ella Reed.
Williamsport beat Selinsgrove in two tennis matches, 4-1 and 3-2. The 3-2 victory was a continuation from a suspended match in late August.
Audrey Dincher of Williamsport earned a three-set win against Alexis Hoot, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 and at No. 2 singles, it was Williamsport’s Gabriella McQuillen who beat Madison Maneval, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles competition, Peton Kelley and Maddy Lundy beat Talia Mowery and Anna Yang, 6-3, 6-4.
In the continuation of the suspended match, Dincher lost in three sets to Hoot, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. McQuillen beat Talia Mowery in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 and Lilly Judge of Williamsport lost at No. 3 singles in three sets, 6-4, 4-7, 6-6 (7-5).
Loyalsock blanked Mifflinburg, 5-0. Caroline Crawford won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2 against Holly Swartz. At No. 1 doubles, Lashlyn Sauers and Kaylene Kriner beat Alice Grill and Megan Blake, 6-0, 6-1 and at No. 2 doubles, Kinsley Hill and Annalise Berger beat Breonna Zimmerman and Lucy Turner, 6-0, 6-1.
• Lewisburg beat Williamsport, 22-33, and Montoursville, 15-50, in a meet at Williamsport as the Millionaires beat the Warriors, 15-50.
South Williamsport, Montgomery and Muncy all competed as well.
Lewisburg had the top 2 finishers in boys competition as Justin Knolt ran a 17:27 to win and Ian Cavanyth ran an 18:10 for second. Montoursville’s Cy Haight took third in 18;26, Muncy’s Cole Grys was fourth in 19:15 and in fifth, Hugh Shields of Lewisburg ran a 19:27. Williamsport’s Noah Baird (19:47), Lauger Waldman (19:48) and Peter Fisher (19:48) took sixth through eighth.
Sullivan County beat Canton, 26-29, and Wellsboro, 23-32. Sullivan’s leading running was Colin Sweigert who ran an 18:44 to take second place. Carter Blasi took sixth in 19:26.
• In girl cross country, Lewisburg swept Montoursville (15-50) and Williamsport (22-33) in a meet at Williamsprot. The Millionaires beat Montoursville, 15-50. South Williamsport, Muncy and Montgomery also competed.
Lewisburg’s Baylee Espinosa won with a time of 19:37, beating Williamsport standout Izzy Sanders by just 14 seconds. Williamsport’s Maddie Sanders took third in 20:17. Lewisburg’s Annika Shields took fourth (21:38), Lewisburg’s Theo Wilkinson was fifth (21:39) and in sixth, Maya Sak of Lewisburg ran a 21:42.
Williamsport’s Clara Wade took seventh in 22:05. Montoursville’s top finisher was Elizabeth Wanner who ran a 25:14 for 17th.
Sullivan County beat Canton (15-50) and Wellsboor (22-33) in an NTL meet. Lauren Kosek led the field in girls competition with a time of 21:06 while Sullivan’s Zoey Reese was second in 22:30. Sullivan County’s Taddi Templin took third in 23:15.
• Williamsport defeated Lewisburg, 3-0, in girls volleyball. The Millionaires won the first game, 35-19, the second game, 25-15, and sealed the victory with a 25-10 third game.
Statistics for Williamsport were not made available.
Claire Chandler had a team-high seven digs and six assists for the Green Dragons. Ella Vance had three digs, Ellis Reed had three digs, Virignia Morini had two kills and Brooke Leauber had two kills.
Wellsboro beat Troy, 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23). Taylor Main had a team-high 18 assists while Ellie Largey had 10. Maddy Cruttenden led Wellsboro with 21 digs, Blake Eckart had 19 and Main recorded 15. Ady Frantz and Kendall Sweet both had nine kills.
• Sophomore Jace Bennett posted four saves in his fourth straight shutout, and freshman Jacob Wojciehowski headed in the lone goal as the Lycoming College men’s soccer team beat Gettysburg College, 1-0.
The Warriors (2-2-2 overall) got on the board in the 15th minute, scoring off a corner kick, with junior Aidan Stillman sending the ball in to Wojciehowski, who found the far corner of the net with the header.
Lycoming took seven shots in the contest to nine from Gettysburg (4-3 overall), but held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
• The Mansfield women’s soccer (0-4) drop a tough battle on the road against Lock Haven (2-2-1), 0-2. The Bald Eagles had opportunities throughout the first half but could not find the finishing touch.
The Mountaineers countered with strong defensive play and steady goalkeeping to keep Lock Haven off the board. Lock Haven held a slight edge in possession and chances after halftime to sneak one past Serenity Esterline.
The Bald Eagles offense held strong collecting another goal for the books.
• Penn College snapped a two-match skid with a 1-0 win over Pitt-Bradford in a non-conference men’s soccer match Tuesday. The Wildcats improved to 4-3, while the Panthers fell to 3-3-1.
Following a scoreless first half, Robert Antonini finished Cooper Smith’s pass in the 58th minute to give PCT its only score it would need. The Wildcats sent five of their six shots on frame in the second half, but three attempts from Garrett Gill, and Logan Berfield’s late shot were stopped.
• Freshman Charlene Petreshock and senior Cameron Upcraft led the hot-hitting Lycoming College volleyball team with 11 kills apiece, as Lycoming overcame a first-set setback to post a 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22) win over Penn State Altoona.
Lycoming (5-6 overall) hit a season-best .330 (49-12-112), the team’s best hitting performance since hitting .422 against Marywood on Sept. 7, 2024.
Junior Alli Macensky, a Galeton graduate, posted eight kills, hitting .667, and three blocks and freshman Kamryn Skeith posted seven kills, 22 assists, two aces, 11 digs and two blocks. Freshman Emi Wenger added five kills, three blocks and 13 digs. Upcraft, who hit .400, also added five blocks.
