Local roundup: Montoursville boys soccer blank North Penn-Liberty
Bryce Winslow scored twice and CJ Lucas added a goal with two assists as Montoursville blanked North Penn-Liberty, 4-0. Winslow also had an assist as did Quinn Winslow on the game’s first goal, setting up Liam Lucas who started a stretch of three goals in less than eight minutes. The Warriors outshot North Penn-Liberty, 23-4.
Lewisburg defeated Camp Hill, 4-1. Camp Hill took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Owen Melham scored. But from there, it’d be all Lewisburg.
The Green Dragons scored four goals in the second half within a 12-minute span to win. Everett Good and Viktor Permyashkin each scored a goal while Isaac Ayres ended the day with two goals and an assist.
Milton defeated Wellsboro in overtime, 2-1, thanks to an own goal in the 85th minute. Jonathan Carl scored a minute into the second half to give the Green Hornets a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Tobin Strous fed a pass to Trent Delong who buried it and made it a tied 1-1- game.
Milton held a 15-7 shots on goal advantage.
“This was the second consecutive year we’ve played into OT with Milton and the final score didn’t go our way,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said. “I’m disappointed in the result, but very proud of the boys’ effort today.”
• Hughesville scored a goal with just more than two minutes to play to cut the deficit to a goal, but Hughesville wasn’t able to get an equalizer in the final 120 seconds as Crestwood defeated the Spartans, 4-3, in Crestwood.
Aly Taggart put Hughesville ahead 1-0 with an assist b Hailey Stevens in the 19th minute but Crestwood scored twice before halftime. The Spartans would tie it just before the half with a goal by Kylie Temple with an assist by Caradyn McGinley.
Crestwood scored twice in the second half and Hughesville ran out of time to rally.
The Comets out-shot Hughesville, 20-14.
Warrior Run fired 16 shots and scored five goals in a 5-0 rout over South Williamsport to hand the Mounties their second loss of the season.
Maura Woland, Brooke Ryder, Nat Hall, Sierra Dunkleberger and Reagan Brouse all scored. Ryder, Katie Zaktansky and Brouse all added goals as well.
Althea Street recorded 11 saves for South Williamsport.
Sullivan County’s Lily McCarty and Quinn Pennella both scored goals to give the Griffins a 2-1 win against Jersey Shore. Alana Olson had an assist.
In goal, Sullivan’s Mariah Hallabuck recorded 21 saves as the Bulldogs routinely peppered the goal.
The game was won on a penalty kick with two seconds to play.
“The girls showed serious grit and determination to win the game,” Sullivan coach Jody McCarty said. “Charley Insinger and Bailey Bogart had great defensive games and Lily McCarty, Quinn Pennella and Juliana Price had strong offensive plays.”
Brooke Wilcox gave North Penn-Mansfield a lead in the first half with 17:35 to play, but Athens would score twice — once before halftime and shortly after — to give Athens a 2-1 win over Mansfield in NTL action.
Avalon Rew played solid in goal to keep the game close, recording 19 saves as Mansfield attempted to tie the game late.
“NPM started out great taking the lead for a good portion of the first half before Athens was awarded a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1 at half,” Mansfield coach Maryann Wilcox said. “I’m proud of how the team is continuing to improve and look forward to seeing our performance for the remainder of our season.”
• Lewisburg’s girls volleyball team secured a 3-2 win against East Juniata (18-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-17, 15-8) by winning the last three sets in an exciting contest.
Claire Chandler had 14 assists, nine aces, four kills and four digs, Ella Vance had four aces, four digs and three kills and Ellis Reed had seven aces, four kills, four digs and three assists.
Katie Houtz had five digs.
• Penn College defeated Elmira, 6-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon behind a pair of markers from Megan Kurian.
Penn College’s offense broke through the Elmira defense in the 17th minute when Ashley Gordon hammered a ball over the keeper’s glove. Five minutes later Kurian converted her first goal of the season on a feed by Brooke Klinger to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead at the half.
Klinger tallied a goal in the 56th minute before the Wildcats rattled off three goals between the 72nd and 75th minutes.
Seven Lycoming players scored as the team posted another rout, 7-1, over Mount Aloysius College. The Warriors (4-0 overall) held a 27-3 advantage in shots and scored the first six goals of the game.
Sophomore Ella Magee kicked off the run with a penalty kick goal in the 13th minute before junior Mikayla Long, a Lewisburg graduate, found the back of the net off a give from sophomore Jordan Zopp.
Junior Norah Mosley added a goal in the 29th minute and senior Abigail Umhoefer added the final goal of the first half in the 33rd minute off a give from freshman Alissa Kimes.
• Sophomore Jace Bennett stopped four shots to secure Lycoming’s men’s soccer team’s second straight shutout in a 0-0 draw with Ursinus College. Bennett made a diving save to his left with less than two minutes remaining in regulation off a hard shot from Enver Desic, helping him finish with four saves, as Ursinus (0-2-1 overall) fired nine shots in the game.
The Warriors (0-2-2 overall) forced Ursinus keeper Josiah Moore to make three saves off 10 shots, with freshman Jacob Wojciechowski taking three shots to lead the team. Freshman Leandro Cruz fired a hard-low shot on net in the 86th minute, but Moore was able to smother it.
=Penn College edge Keuka College, 1-0. Silas Miller broke a scoreless deadlock with an unassisted tally in the 81st minute.
The Wildcats sent two balls on frame in the first half, but both attempts from Diego Diaz were stopped. Jimmy Friedman put a pair of shots on goal in the second half, but both were turned away.
Penn College outshot Keuka, 7-3 (6-2 on-goal) and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Justin Crismale stopped two shots in goal for the Wildcats to earn the victory.
Lock Haven’s defense stood tall against the defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion Bloomsburg and Lock Haven ended the 90 minutes in a scoreless draw.
With the tie, the Bald Eagles move to 1-0-1 on the young season and have yet to surrender a goal. Bloomsburg moves to 0-0-1.
The Bald Eagles held the Huskies to just six total shots in the game.
• Four first-half goals helped lift the Lycoming College field hockey team to a 4-1 win over Keuka College. Senior Halie Woodring led the offense with a goal and an assist and freshman Laurel Fite contributed a pair of assists for the Warriors (2-1 overall).
Junior Loghan Shelly got the team on the board midway through the first quarter off an assist from Fite before senior Tayah Bauer scored a minute later off a give from Woodring. Sophomore Lacy Eckard, a Muncy graduate, dded a third first-quarter goal with 4:03 left in the quarter off a give from junior Carmen Hannon.
• Freshmen Kamryn Skeith, Emi Wenger and Charlene Petreshock each had 15 or more kills to lead the Lycoming College women’s volleyball team in a tri-match at Lamade Gym on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6, as the team fell to Alfred State, 3-2 (15-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-12, 15-8), and Marywood, 3-2 (21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 19-25, 15-10).
Skeith posted 18 kills, 27 assists and 27 digs, posting a triple-double, her third of the season, with 10 kills, 12 assists and 13 digs against Alfred State (6-0 overall) and a double-double with 15 assists and 14 digs to go with eight kills against Marywood (5-0 overall).
Wenger posted 10 kills and seven digs against Alfred State and six kills and 18 digs against Marywood and Petreshock notched 10 kills and six digs against Alfred State and five kills against Marywood.
Junior Ima Mercado notched 15 digs against Alfred State and 19 digs and three aces against Marywood. Junior Haley Balgavy posted 10 assists and nine digs against Marywood and 16 assists and an ace against Alfred State.
The Lock Haven volleyball team finished the first weekend of the 2025 season at the Hall of Fame City Challenge on the campus of Walsh University on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6). The Bald Eagles fell to Lake Erie 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 23-25).
The Bald Eagles (0-3 overall) had a strong start to the match, winning the first set 25-17. Lock Haven then narrowly lost its next three sets with scores of (24-26, 23-25, 23-25).
Reagon Irons led the Lock Haven offense with nine kills and six aces.
