Local roundup: Temple sisters lift HHS past Milton, 2-0

Kylie and Katelyn Temple both found the back of the net for Hughesville as the Spartans handed Milton its first loss of the year in girls soccer on Monday, 2-0.

Both goals for Hughesville came in the second half after a scoreless 40 minutes opened the game. The Spartans dominated possession en route to firing 23 shots on goal. Sienna Short played well between the pipes with 21 saves to keep the Black Panthers in the game.

Jasmine Caputo had four saves for Hughesville to record the shutout victory.

Warrior Run secured a 4-1 win against Bloomsburg. Bloomsburg led 1-0 with a goal in the first five minutes of the second half after having the ball for majority of the first half.

Scarlett Dunkleberger sent in a corner to tie up the game when Chloe Bastian scored before she then found Brooke Ryder for another score and gave the Defenders the 2-1 lead.

With 10 minutes left, Katie Zaktansky found Dunkleberger for a goal and Lacey Betz then scored off a Ryder assist for her first varsity goal.

• Jersey Shore scored three second-half goals to defeat Sullivan County in boys soccer, 4-3, in an exciting contest. Lucas King scored twice in the first half en route to a 3-1 lead. In the seocnd half, Jayden Passetti, Dylan Hensler and Gabe Welshans scored for the Bulldogs to take the lead and win.

Welshans scored a first-half goal and Ezra Paulhamus and Welshans had assists.

Sullivan County out-shot the Bulldogs, 19-11.

• Hughesville continued its impressive tennis season, a year after graduating four starters, winning all five matches in straight sets as it blanked Bloomsburg, 5-0. Georgia Randall and Rebecca Roberts won their singles matches without dropping a game and Talia Saka won, 6-1, 6-1. Gracie Budman and Caroline Hicks, as well as Carly Sones and Shelby Myers also won in convincing fashion in doubles matches.

South Williamsport swept two matches against Muncy, one the resumption of a suspended match last month, 3-0 and 5-0. The Mounties won all 10 matches in straight sets. Mylee Morrison won her two matches without dropping a game.

• Jaci Fairchild, Kara Bennett, Carolyn Cherwinski and Maria Wheeler took the top four places, helping North Penn-Liberty win its cross country meet against Troy. Fairchild won the race in a time of 23 minutes, 44 seconds.

North Penn-Liberty’s Michael Knefly took first place against Troy, winning in a time of 17:54. Knefly beat the second-place finisher by 32 seconds, although Troy won the meet, 22-37. Braden Vanloon and Peter Bishop took sixth and seventh for the Mounties.
