Local roundup: Williamsport girls volleyball claims Shamokin Tournament title

Williamsport wins Shamokin Tournament championship by beating Loyalsock (3-0), Shamokin (3-0), Montoursville (3-0), Upper Dauphin (1-0) in the semifinals and then beat Tri-Valley in the finals (2-0).

Belle Morrow was solid throughout the tournament. She had 34 points, 48 kills, 15 digs and 32 assists in addition to four assisted blocks and three solo.

Pippy Kieser had 20 points, Peyton Dincher had 28, Tanaya Holmes had nine, Geiani Whaley had 34, Molly Roan had 25 and Molly Griesemer had seven.

Marly Naugle had a monster performance with an impressive 51 points throughout the tournament. She also had 14 digs. Libby Radspinner posted 32 assists

• Montoursville’s boys soccer team has continued its excellent season by remaining undefeated with a 2-1 win against Shikellamy, moving to 10-0.

CJ Lucas scored 90 seconds into the game off an assist by Quinn Winslow for the fast lead. In the 32nd minute, it was Quinn Winslow dishing out an assist to Adam Shearer for a 2-0 Montoursville lead.

Shikellamy avoided the shutout by scoring with 24 seconds until the end of regulation on a goal by Ryan DePhillips. Mason Fry had three saves.

Montgomery defeated Towanda in a non-conference boys soccer matchup, 6-1. Dylan Sherman scored four goals while Damaj Stewart-Williams and Camden Dalrymple each added a goal.

Cam Wilver, Dalrymple and Conor Irwin had assists.

“It was great to see the boys have some success early and put together a solid effort for 80 minutes tonight,” Montgomery coach Michael Sherman said. “We were winning 50/50 balls and pressuring the ball with a bit more intensity which was the difference in the game.”

Muncy blanked Shamokin, 6-0, as Bodie Moyer recorded eight saves to earn the shutout. Landyn Burns scored twice while Kyran Lisembee had a goal and assist for the Indians.

Ezra Paulhamus scored the game’s lone goal to lift Jersey Shore past North Penn-Liberty in a tight game, 1-0. Orrin Pennycoff had 10 saves for the Bulldogs for the shutout victory.

South Williamsport fell to Northeast Bradford on the road, 2-0. Tyler Kuhn and Dan Barrett scored Northeast Bradford’s two goals. The game was scoreless entering the second half. Dylan Webb made six saves for the Mounties as Northeast Bradford held a narrow 8-6 shots-on-goal advantage.

• Muncy suffered its first loss of the year in girls soccer to a talented Southern Columbia team, 7-2. Muncy’s two goals came from Zoe Kunkle and Kiki Woodward.

The two Indian goals cut the deficit to 5-2 in the 26th minute in the first half.

But Southern Columbia’s defense wouldn’t allow another goal the rest of the way and added two insurance goals in the second half. Harper Thompson and Kennadie Reamer each scored twice for the Tigers.

Eva Nagel had 11 saves in goal for Muncy.

Lily McCarty scored twice while Quinn Pennella added a goal and August Harney had an assist, but Sullivan County fell to Meadowbrook Christian at home, 5-3. Mariah Hallabuk played well kin goal, recording 18 saves, but Meadowbrook managed to get five past her to secure the win.

• Jersey Shore’s girls tennis team faced off against league foe Williamsport (3-6), a team it previous edged out in a thrilling match in early September. The rematch was just as thrilling, coming down to the final court.

In this case, it was the Millionaires who came out on top. Behind a sweep of doubles and Lilly Judge’s win at No. 3, Williamsport edged out the victory over the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2.

For Shore (4-8), Josie Gerst kept up her stout play at Singles Court One, posting a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Williamsport’s Audrey Dincher. Julia Herman made it two straight-set victory for the Bulldogs in singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

South Williamsport defeated Wellsboro, 4-1. The Mounties swept the singles competition. Emma McLaughlin beat Oliva Gage at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1; Mylee Morrison beat Serenity Mosher at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0; and at No. 3 singles, South’s Mogan Ertel beat Logan Root, 6-0, 6-1.

Hughesville won its second thrilling match against Lewisburg this season, 3-2, as Georgia Randall clinched victory with a comeback, three-set win at No. 1 singles. Randall dropped the first set but stormed back to take the next two, 6-3, 6-4. Rebecca Roberts and Talia Saka won straight-sets singles matches, helping Hughesville improve to 12-1.

Central Mountain lost to Danville, 4-1. The Wildcats’ lone victory came at No. 1 singles where Addison Lindsay earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against Josie Bendle.

Loyalsock earned a 4-1 win against Milton. The Black Panthers only win was at No. 3 singles where Carrie King beat vivian Reem, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

At No. 1 doubles, Lashyln Sauers and Kaylene Kriner beat Elliot Brosious and Maddie Coup, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Kinsley Hill and Annalise Berger beat Bella Paynter and Ava Beaver, 6-1, 6-2.

Montoursville defeated Mifflinburg in girls tennis, 4-1. At No. 1 singles, Montoursville’s Elsa Kehrer earned a 6-0, 6-4 win against Holly Swartz. Montoursville’s Ali Ravert beat Rhyann Kurtz at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4.

In doubles competition, Montoursville’s Mya Wilson and Kenna Vought beat Alice Grill and Megan Blake, 6-0, 7-6 (7-1).

• In high school golf, Loyalsock beat Milton in boys competition, 183-222, while the Lancer girls scored 191. Milton had no girls team.

In boys competition, Loyalsock was led by Drake Dupont and Jahvon LaRosa who both shot 45s. Ronnie Emery shot a 46 and Bryson Rankinen, Garrett Rankinen and Connor Phillips all had 47s.

On the girls side, Londyn Kresock shot a 59, Mercedes Allison shot a 60 and Holly Raifsnider shot a 72.

• Sophomore Kayvan Shams, a South Williamsport graduate, won his matches at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles to lead the Lycoming College men’s tennis team, which fell to Moravian, 6-1, in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams.

Shams teamed with sophomore Logan Hammond, a Loyalsock graduate, to post a 6-3 win over Ryan Burke and Matthew Labosky before he posted a 6-1, 1-6, 10-8 superset tiebreaker win over Burke.

• The Lycoming College women’s tennis team fell to Moravian University, 7-0, to kick off Landmark Conference play. The Warriors fell to 0-4 and 0-1 in league play. Moravian is 2-0 and 1-0 in Landmark play.

• Bucknell sophomore Reese Dolan has parlayed her first career shutout into her first career Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week Award, as she was recognized on Monday after Bucknell’s 2-0 blanking of Lehigh over the weekend.

Dolan was outstanding in net in the Patriot League opener on Saturday, making six saves on the day.

• With three more goals and an assist in a 2-0 week for the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, sophomore Ella Magee repeated as the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Magee earned the award on Sept. 15 after a four-goal, one-assist week against Westminster and Pitt-Greensburg.

The sophomore had a goal and an assist on go-ahead goals in a wild 4-3 win over King’s College, as she helped Lycoming take its first lead, 2-1, on a direct kick in the 29th minute and added an assist to give Lycoming a 3-2 lead in the 35th minute to respond after King’s tied the game just 44 seconds before.

She came up even more clutch against Alvernia, tying the game with her third score off a corner kick in the 63rd minute before drilling her third penalty kick of the year in the 87th minute to clinch the win.

• Penn College needed five sets to come out on top in a thrilling five-set victory over Penn State Schuylkill in non-conference volleyball action inside Bardo Gymnasium. The Wildcats upped their season record to 3-12, already matching last season’s wins total. Schuylkill fell to 3-4.

Penn College struck first with a 25-16 opening set victory, hitting .200 as a team while Lilly Stockum scored four kills and Sara Seyfert posted four service aces in the set.

The Lions came back swinging to earn the 25-13 set two win followed by a pair of tight-matched sets three and four won by the WIldcats (25-23) and the Kions (28-26), respectively to set up the winner-take-all fifth frame.
