Lycoming’s Bennett earns Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week honor in men’s soccer

After holding the defending conference champions to a tie and notching six saves, sophomore goalkeeper Jace Bennett was named Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Bennett earned a season-high six saves on Saturday, Sept. 27 on the road against the Catholic University of America. In the Warriors’ conference opener against the unbeaten Cardinals, Bennett was instrumental in Lycoming earning a 1-1 draw, the first result for the Warriors against Catholic since 2023 and the sixth straight match with a result for the Warriors, who did not lose in September.

In eight games this season, Bennett has surrendered just six goals, going 3-2-3 in net this year and posting four clean sheets. That comes off the heels of a strong first year in which Bennett was 10-5-5 in goal with eight shutouts.

This is the fourth weekly honor for Bennett, who also was named Defensive Athlete of the Week twice last season, on Sept. 3 and 23, 2024 as well as on Sept. 8 this year after tossing shutouts against Misericordia and Ursinus. This is the third honor this year for the Warriors, with Christian Woobay also taking home Offensive Athlete of the Week honors on Sept. 15.

The Warriors will be back in action in their final non-conference match of the season, hitting the road to take on Messiah University on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
