Montgomery boys soccer improves to 8-4 by blanking Shamokin
Montgomery’s boys soccer team traveled to Shamokin on Saturday morning and left wtih a 4-0 victory.
The Red Raiders wasted no time taking the lead in the match as their senior captains teamed up for a quick score. Cameron Wilver found Cameron Dalrymple who put a nice shot in the goal from distance just 44 seconds into the match.
Montgomery found there second goal just six minutes later when sophomore Jackson Wilver provided a deep throw into the goal box that accidentally deflected off off a Shamokin defender for a own goal.
It took just 40 seconds to find the net for the third time. Freshman midfielder Cody Sechrist followed up a hard shot that was knocked down by the goalkeeper offering a rebound opportunity. Sechrist made a great far post run and was able to capitalize for his first career goal for the Red Raiders.
“Being up 3-0 with three different individuals involved in the scoring was certainly nice to see,” Montgomery coach Michael Sherman said. “Cody has been working hard this season to learn the game as well as his positioning on the field. Awesome to see him find the back of the net and gain some confidence.”
The game remained 3-0 until the 86th minute when Dalrymple was fouled in the Shamokin box. He converted the penalty kick for the 4-0 lead.
The victory puts Montgomery just one win away from clinching a guaranteed District 4 playoff birth for the third consecutive season since reinstating the program in 2020.
The Red Raiders (8-4) return to league play Wednesday hosting Benton.
