Many high school football coaches aren’t big fans of homecoming week. After all, there are deviations from the normal routine and plenty of distractions. On Friday night, Montoursville appeared unaffected by the most festive week of the school year, thoroughly dispatching Central Columbia, 52-0, to improve to 5-1.
“I was happy with how we focused. I thought the kids were really focused. The message was just to go out and play our game, take care of business,” Montoursville coach Joe Hanna said.
Take care of business they did.
The Warriors were dominant against a Blue Jay team that has now scored just 21 points in six games this year en route to an 0-6 start to the season.
“We wanted to be fundamentally sound, run the plays we’re supposed to run. Defensively, be in a position where you’re supposed to be just the fundamentals and do the right things on the field,” Hanna said.

It was pretty evident early on that it would be a stress-free night for Montoursville coming off of a challenging schedule the first five weeks of the season that they were able to navigate and get through at 4-1. Christian Banks took the third play of scrimmage off the right side for a 45-yard touchdown run, his first of four touchdown runs on the evening.
“It was great to have a great game, four touchdowns like last year. I’ve got to give it to my line. They absolutely destroyed their D-line, and they just opened up every hole, and it was just free roam from there right at the beginning,” Banks said.
Montoursville would score twice more before the end of the opening frame. Elijah Eck found Kade Moore along the left sideline for a 68-yard catch-and-run on the ensuing possession, and Banks scored again, this time from 20 yards out after the Warriors recovered a fumble to cap the scoring in the opening quarter.
Montoursville’s offense stayed red-hot in the second quarter, and were buoyed by a defense that allowed just one first down in the quarter. Chase Jones scored on a one-yard run and Banks scored his third and fourth touchdowns from 16 yards and nine yards, respectively to put the game well into the mercy rule at 42-0 at halftime.
The Warriors picked up right where they left off in the third quarter, and this time it was the other feature back, Hayden Harvey, doing the damage. Harvey went off the right side for a 51-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter to extend the lead to 49-0 on a night of light workloads for both he and Banks.

“Our line, they did an outstanding job tonight. Christian, (Chase Jones) myself, all of our running backs, even JV, pushed through, got a whole bunch of yards tonight. Whole bunch of touchdowns,” Harvey said.
Montoursville would tack one another score on an impressive 41-yard field goal kick by Adam Shearer in the final frame to cap the scoring at 52-0.
