Week 3 football roundup: Muncy cruises past Cowanesque on the road
Muncy scored 34 first-half points en route to a convincing 48-6 rout on the road at Cowanesque Valley in Week 3 action on Friday night.
Nate Rogers caught a 26-yard pass for Muncy’s first score from Andrew Walters before Layken Harris had a 6-yard run to put the Indians ahead, 14-0.
In the second quarter, it was Wes Somits who scored twice and Rogers who caught another score to give the Indians a 34-0 lead. In the second quarter, Muncy scored its three touchdowns in a nearly five-minute span.
Muncy out-gained Cowanesque 408-207 as Walters threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns, Harris ran for 55 yards, Walters ran for 49 and Somits ran for 48. Jaxson Thomas also added 31 rushing yards.
Cowanesque Valley was led by Keagan Lane’s 81 rushing yards and a touchdown while Cam Stahli threw for 81 yards.
TROY 42, SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT 13
The Mounties had a tough home test in Week 3 facing defending state champion Troy and Troy proved to be too much, winning 42-13.
The game was just 7-0 after the first quarter and South Williamsport’s Levi Butler had a 20-yard touchdown reception from Cole Gerber with 4:22 to play until halftime to cut the deficit to 14-6, but South wouldn’t be able to rally as Troy would score four consecutive touchdowns from there.
Mason Smith had three first-half touchdowns, including an 88-yard run in the first quarter, a 57-yard run in the second and had a 3-yard score with 36 seconds to play until halftime.
Troy ran for 342 yards and had 400 yards of offense. Smith had 241 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just 13 carries.
South Williamsport was led by Garrett Lorson’s 90 rushing yards and Cade Lusk’s 40. Gerber went 13 for 22 for 155 yards.
BLOOMSBURG 35, LEWISBURG 24
Lewisburg went into the half with a four-point lead, 18-14, but the Panthers would score 21 second-half points to secure an 11-point win against the Green Dragons.
Wyatt Brosious had two touchdown runs in the third quarter — a 15-yard run and 17-yard run — to give Bloomsburg a 28-18 lead in the third quarter.
Lewisburg’s Jalen Walker had a 15-yard touchdown catch from Xavier Carter with 10:09 to play in the fourth to cut the deficit to 28-24, but a touchdown with three minutes left sealed the game for Bloomsburg.
Carter had two touchdown passes as he finished 17 for 30 for 159 yards while Walker caught seven passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Brosious ended with 199 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers.
SOUTHERN 35, MILTON 0
Southern Columbia dominated from the start and held Milton to just 71 yards of offense en route to a five-touchdown win.
Southern Columbia out-gained Milton, 319-71. The Tigers stifled Milton’s ground game as the Black Panthers had 18 carries for 58 yards and just 71 passing yards.
Brayden Andrews ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns while Grady Garcia had 54 rushing yards. Ayden Hockenbroch threw for 100 yards and a touchdown on 8 for 13 passing.
Milton’s Montgomery Fisher had just 13 passing yards and on the ground, he led Milton wtih 66 rushing yards.
WARRIOR RUN 48, MIDD-WEST 20
Liam Moore caught two touchdown passes and Denyn Beachel had two touchdown runs as Warrior Run defeated Midd-West, 48-20.
Warrior Run held Midd-West to just 118 yards of offense as the Defenders had 316. Midd-West was held to just 24 passing yards and only had 94 rushing yards on 32 carries.
Warrior run’s Beachel ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns and passing wise, James Keifer — who also had 38 rushing yards — threw for 162 yards on 11 for 15 passing with three touchdowns.
Tyler Ulrich had a 22-yard interception return.
NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD 24, TOWANDA 17
Luke Kreger ran the ball 16 times for 143 yards and a touchdown and Jeremiah Lawrence had 13 carries for 115 and a score as Mansfield defeated Towanda by a touchdown in an NTL showdown on Friday.
Towanda’s Reese Sluyter had a solid performance with 25 carries for 140 yards and scored a touchdown.
The game was tied with 7:03 to play when Sluyter scored from a yard out. But Mansfield kept battling and with just 23 seconds on the clock, Mansfield’s Kreger scored from 2 yards out to give Mansfield a 24-17 lead and the defense held on from there.
