Williamsport notes: Williamsport (3-1) is trying to bounce back from its first loss, as well as get another crack at Selinsgrove following a last-minute, 21-20 loss a year ago. The Millionaires seven quarters without allowing an offensive point before Shikellamy scored 21 in the second quarter a week ago. The Millionaires led 14-7 after the first quarter despite the Braves returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Williamsport had scored 28 or more points in its first three wins. Running back Giovanni White leads the team in both rushing and receiving and is fourth among area rushers. Quarterback Tevin Williams is third in passer rating, starting for the first time as a sophomore after working mostly at wide receiver in the offseason. Trey Damschroder and Brayden Ungard have caught long touchdowns and Williams has totaled five touchdowns the past two games. Linebacker Lucas Naughton is averaging more than 10 tackles per game for a second straight season and seeking a second straight 100-tackle campaign. Damschroder has two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown against Central Mountain. The Millionaires forced eight turnovers in their three wins but none against Shikellamy.
Williamsport Player to watch–Jacob Evelhair: The sophomore safety appears to have a bright future, making a nice impact in his first season starting. Evelhair averaged 8.3 tackles through the first three weeks and opened his season with an 11-tackle performance at Wyoming Valley West in his varsity debut. He also intercepted a pass that night.
Selinsgrove PPG–10.0, PPA–33.0; YPG–172.3, YPA–382.8
Selinsgrove notes: Another young squad, Selinsgrove (1-3) opened the season with three strong opponents, including two state-ranked ones, and that experience served it well a week ago when it defeated Central Mountain, 27-3. Linebacker Owen Hoffman had a big night, making a team-high 11 tackles and he dropped the hammer in the fourth quarter, returning an interception 64 yards for a touchdown. The Seals have played stingy defense in both their road games, limiting Juniata to 234 yards in their opener. They also collected three sacks in last week’s win. Senior Brett Rice ignites the offense and carried a career-high 25 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns against Central Mountain. Rice has two 100-yard games this season. Selinsgrove ran for 308 yards in last year’s comeback win at Williamsport. Quarterback Rocco Amato threw for 982 yards in his first season starting a year ago and found Jake Beddall for a game-changing touchdown right before halftime at Central Mountain.
Selinsgrove Player to watch–Wyatt Teats: In addition to leading the team with 15 catches, Teats also is third on the team, averaging seven tackles per game. The senior linebacker averaged 5.6 tackles per game last year and is a team leader on both sides of the ball.
Outlook: This game feels a bit like last year where points may be hard to come by at times. The Millionaires did not give up a lot of yards to Shikellamy despite the score, so let’s say the first one to 20 wins this one.
