Williamsport at Shikellamy preview
Williamsport PPG–33.7, PPA–9.0; YPG–327, YPA–303.7
Williamsport notes: Williamsport (3-0) faces its toughest test yet this season and is trying to reach 4-0 for a second straight year. The Millionaires have not allowed a point over the last six quarters and Trey Damschroder returned an interception for a touchdown in last week’s 42-0 win against Central Mountain. The Millionaires are allowing fewer points than any District 4 team other than Line Mountain but also are just 11th among 17 area teams in yards allowed. That highlights how this unit has bent but not broken the first three weeks. The Millionaires have forced eight turnovers, and made three stops in their own territory last week. Linebacker Lucas Naughton is building off an excellent junior season and was a force against Central Mountain, collecting 16 tackles, man behind or near the line of scrimmage. Kason Ulmer was tough off the edge and made a career-high 13 tackles, including two for loss. Giovanni White has gone over 100 rushing yards the past two weeks and also caught a long touchdown in the opener. Quarterback Tevin Williams totaled 193 yards and three touchdowns a week ago and Damschroder caught a 47-yard touchdown. Brayden Ungard caught a long touchdown the previous week against Hazleton.
Williamsport Player to Watch–Rob Davis: The senior defensive tackle has come on strong the last two weeks and had six tackles against Central Mountain. He helped contain Central Mountain’s inside running game last week, had a tackle for loss, and was able to get a nice push up front which helped free up the linebackers.
Shikellamy PPG–27.7, PPA–31.0; YPG–320.7, YPA–319
Shikellamy notes: Shikellamy (2-1) is a much improved team from a year ago despite losing to Shamokin 52-21 a week ago. The Braves scored 62 points in their first two games and already have eclipsed last year’s win total. Quarterback Brody Rebuck is a four-year starter who threw for 537 yards and four touchdowns in the first two weeks, also scoring the winning touchdown with 17.4 seconds remaining in a thrilling comeback win at Lewisburg. He also leads the team in rushing and has all four of its rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Thomas Pollock is one of the district’s best and caught 16 passes for 319 yards and four touchdowns in those two wins. The junior already is just 122 yards from reaching 2,000 for his career. Corbin Stahl also had a 100-yard game against Milton in the season opener and has caught touchdowns in two of three contests. Bobby Felmy returned an interception for a touchdown to clinch the season-opening win at Milton. Linebacker Chase Swartz averages seven tackles per game and has two for loss. Shikellamy is fourth in the District 4 Class AAAA standings with the top four finishers reaching the playoffs.
Shikellamy Player to Watch–Brody Rebuck: We already covered what Rebuck does offensively but he also is one of the team’s most valuable defenders. An outside linebacker, Rebuck has sacks in both Shikellamy wins and made nine tackles against Milton, adding two tackles for loss.
Outlook: On a weekend filled with compelling matchups, this is yet another one. Shikellamy felt like a sleeping giant the last two years, but couldn’t put the pieces together. Now that it is doing so, it feels like a contender. This could turn into a back-and-forth game.
