Wyalusing notes: Wyalusing (1-3) took a six-point lead against Montgomery a week ago before allowing 28 straight points in a second straight loss. The Rams have lost two games by eight points or fewer and have held three opponents to 21 points or fewer. They rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit in Week 2, scoring 23 straight second-half points to defeat Cowanesque Valley, 30-14. South and Wyalusing played a thriller last year with the Mounties prevailing, 21-19 when a last-second field goal try was off the mark. Wyalusing features a hard-nosed running game and Jon Earle and Ethan Vanderpool have combined for 580 yards. The Rams ran the ball at will in last year's game against South, gaining 331 rushing yards. Earle topped 70 yards in each of his first three games and quarterback Reuben Kinney ran for 51 yards against CV.
Wyalusing Player to watch--Andrew Taylor: Wyalusing does not throw a lot, but Taylor certainly has made defenses pay when it does. Taylor has caught four touchdowns in his last three games and all but two of his catches have resulted in scores. He also is averaging a 31.2 yards per catch.
South PPG--17.8, PPA--32.0; YPG--286.5, YPA--317.3
South notes: After giving Class AA state champion Troy a battle the previous week, South (1-3) struggled in all facets at Milton last Friday. Still, the Mounties control both their league title and district playoff destiny and were in the same situation last year. This is one of the area's youngest teams in terms of what year the starters are, but also an experienced one since so many freshmen and sophomores started last year. Junior Levi Butler is a first-time player and has excelled, catching 19 passes, good for third among area receivers. Sophomore quarterback Cole Gerber went over 100 yards in his first three varsity starts and fellow sophomore Cade Lusk is tied for eighth among area rushers. Freshman Garrett Lorson ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns against Canton and has stepped up in a big way since sophomore Eli White was injured in the season opener. Kasim Davenport produced three sacks at Canton and three players have interceptions. Caleb Johnson is one of those players and complements Butler in the passing game, averaging 25 yards per catch.
South Player to watch--Samir Moy: Another young player who is embracing a large role, Moy is among the team's leading tacklers in his first varsity season. Moy recovered fumbles in each of his first two games. Lusk is the only player who has more solo tackles than Moy does.
Outlook: These teams are built in similar fashion and it would not be surprising if this game is a lot like last year's where the winner is not determined until
