Football roundup: Warrior Run, Wellsboro both earn Week 10 victories

Warrior Run defeated Milton, 31-10, in the Defenders’ regular-season finale. The Defenders gained 418 yards of total offense and limited Milton to just 164.

Tyler Ulrich had 20 carries for 176 yards and scored three touchdowns while Denyn Beachel ran 21 times for 147, creating a two-headed monster in the backfield that Milton couldn’t contain.

Warrior Run trailed 3-0 when Louis Williams had a 33-yard field goal for the first points for Milton, but the Defenders would score 31 unanswered points before Milton found the endzone again. Milton’s only touchdown came on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Monty Fisher to Cole Rhodes.

WELLSBORO 48, NP-MANSFIELD 10

Wellsboro scored 21 points in the second quarter to pull away and North Penn-Mansfield never was able to rally as the Green Hornets won, 48-10, in Week 10 on Friday night.

Mansfield took its only lead of the game when Colton Pellett returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a 7-0 lead. The Green Hornets would score with 40 seconds left in the quarter to tie the game when Gideon Lawton caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Griffin Morral, 7-7.

From there, it would be Wellsboro’s lead for good. Dylan Copp had a 14-yard touchdown from Morral before Marek Mascho caught a 40-yard strike and, with the conversion, took a 22-7 lead. Mansfield’s Brody Grinnell booted a 32-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 22-10, but that’s the closest Mansfield would get.

Kody Enck had a 10-yard touchdown pass from Morral with 2 seconds until halftime to extend the lead to 28-10 at the break.

Morral ended with 172 passing yards and four touchdowns while he ran for 196 and a touchdown on 16 carries. Mascho ran for 147 and two touchdowns and had a team-high 72 receiving yards.

Mansfield was led by Luke Kreger’s 37 rushing yards as Mansfield had just 58 yards of total offense. Wellsboro collected 517 yards.

TROY 49, CANTON 6

Defending PIAA Class AA champion Troy cruised past Canton, 49-6. The Trojans saw Mason Smith throw two first-quarter touchdowns of nine and 29 yards to Trey Smith and Spencer Martin, respectively, while he also ran for eight yards for a fast 21-0 lead.

Troy then scored another 21 in the second quarter to put the mercy rule into effect. Brendan Gilliland had a 26-yard run for a 28-0 lead before Mason Smith found Roland Smith for 23 yards and a 35-0 lead. Mason Smith then threw a 19-yard strike to Spencer Martin with 58 seconds until halftime to make it a 42-0 lead.

Canton’s score came with 4:05 to play when Owen Moore had a 45-yard touchdown pass to Ryder Route.
