This week we remember 1987 local Hall of Fame inductee Albert Thorne who started his bowling career in the early 1950s in his early 20s. Between 1970-96, Thorne finish every season with one of the top-50 averages in the local association, including 11 seasons in which he finished in the top-20.
During the 1992-93 season, only seven other bowlers in the county topped Thorne’s 221 average, which was his career high seasonal average. His 196 average for the 1970-71 season was good for seventh place that season. Thorne rolled eight 300 games between 1984 and 1998. At the end of the 1985-86 season, Thorne won the local Bowler of the Year Tournament, averaging 227 for the length of the tournament. Between 1990 and 1996, Thorne won six State Senior’s Tournament Championships, all in the scratch division.
He served as president of the local association during the 1991-92 season after serving on the board of directors for the ten previous seasons.
Hope to see you on the lanes.
