Local roundup: Montoursville boys soccer falls to Midd-West
CJ Lucas scored a goal off a Quinn Winslow assist, but Midd-West started strong with three first half goals and defeated Montoursville, 5-1.
Scarlett Dunkleberger notched two goals and Nat Hall added a third, but that wasn’t enough to lead Warrior Run past District 4 power Central Columbia, as it fell by a score of 6-3.
The Bluejays scored four goals through the first and Joey Devlin posted a hat trick, keeping the Defenders a few steps behind. For Warrior Run, Katie Zaktansky and Brooke Rider attributed an assist each, and Chloe Burden had four saves in goal.
The Wildcats hosted Bloomsburg for a non-league match, with the seniors playing their final home game in Malinak Stadium. The Panthers jumped to a two-goal lead in the first and notched two more in the second to win the game, 4-0. Central Mountain will look to bounce back in its season final at Montoursville on Thursday.
On Tuesday night, the Wellsboro volleyball team battled back from a first-set loss in dominant fashion, winning the next three sets, 25-16, 25-10 and 25-2, to defeat Williamson, 3-1.
Blake Eckart and Ady Frantz combined for 27 kills, with Frantz posting a team-leading three solo blocks. Taylor Main finished with a team-leading 18 assists and ten digs. And Maddy Cruttenden led the team in points (25) and digs (17) while also posting two assists.
Halie Woodring scored and assisted on another goal, helping Lycoming’s field hockey team defeat Goucher College, 2-1. Lycoming (9-4) set a school record with its ninth win and also won their third straight Landmark Conference game, all by 2-1 scores. Woodring assisted Muncy graduate Lacy Eckhard for the game’s first goal before scoring the second.
Olivia Hudson scored the game-winning goal late in the second half and Megan Miller recorded a clean sheet in goal to lift the Lock Haven women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Hubert Jack Stadium on Wednesday night. The victory is the first win for The Haven over East Stroudsburg since 2018.
After a scoreless 78 minutes, Hudson found the back of the net off a screamer to the upper-right 90 of the goal off an assist from Lauren Straub. The Haven finished with a game-high 14 shots and four corners. Maci Shaffer led the Bald Eagles with four shots, including two on goal. Hudson finished with three shots, all on goal, and her team-leading second goal of the season.
As she did all night long, Miller remained strong in net for the final 12 minutes to help Lock Haven seal the victory. Miller finished with a game-high six saves and is now just four saves away from breaking the Lock Haven all-time career saves record.
