Facing a Midd-West team ranked No. 6 in the state in Class AA with a 13-1-1 record, the Central Mountain boys soccer team proved up to the task, defeating the Mustangs, 2-1, behind strong play from its seniors. In their last home game at Central Mountain, the class left it all out on the line, with both goals and assists being posted by seniors.
Tim Brinker got the Wildcats on the board early on an assist from Dylan Bechdel. And when the Mustangs responded to tie it at 1-1 heading into the break, it wouldn’t take them long to take back the lead, as Kullen McDermit headed in a free kick from Cole Cooper to make it 2-1 Central Mountain.
From there, goalkeeper Jaggar Pardoe kept the Mustangs offense at bay.
It was a strong win for a team that’s been building up momentum heading into postseason, as it improved to 8-5-3 on the season. It’ll look to finish strong on the road at Altoona next week.
“Jaggar Pardoe played fantastic in goal with countless saves throughout the evening,” said Central Mountain head coach on Pardoe. “Unbelievable team performance for 80 minutes.”
In a game the Bulldogs remained within until the last few minutes, Milton’s Tobin Strous sealed the deal with less than two minutes to go, scoring a goal to propel the Black Panthers to a 2-0 win over Jersey Shore. While the Bulldogs fell just one shot short of matching Milton’s total, Black Panther keepers James Thomas and Louis Williams were able to keep them off the board for the game’s entirety.
Lock Haven’s Kade Black tied a program record, scoring four goals while helping the Bald Eagles rout Pitt-Johnstown at Hubert Jack Stadium. Black tied a record set in 2001 and Lock Haven (6-4-1) scored its most goals in a game since 2023.
