ATHENS — Loyalsock volleyball made program history as they knocked off the defending District 4 Class AA champions Wellsboro in the semifinals Tuesday to punch their ticket to the finals.
The Lancers won in exciting fashion, 3-2, as they lost the first set 25-19. Loyalsock did take the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20 while the Hornets rolled to a 25-15 fourth set win.
It was a back-and-forth fifth set as Loyalsock led early, but Wellsboro rallied to take a 14-12 lead, putting them on the verge of another district berth.
The Lancers, though, had one more push left in them and they scored four straight points to win the match.
They’ll play Troy on Thursday for the district final with a 7 p.m. start up at Athens.
