Lycoming beats Goucher in record-breaking win in women’s field hockey
Senior Halie Woodring recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Lycoming College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Goucher College in a Landmark Conference matchup on Wednesday.
Lycoming (9-4, 3-2) set a school record with their ninth victory of the season with the one-goal victory over Goucher (6-7, 2-3). The Warriors have also won three conference games in a row, all by identical 2-1 scores.
After a quiet first quarter in which only three total shots were taken, the Warriors struck just over three minutes into the second quarter. After a penalty corner, Woodring found sophomore Lacy Eckard, a Muncy graduate, for the first goal of the night, Eckard’s fifth score of the year. The tally gave Lycoming a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half, it was Woodring’s turn to find the back of the cage. Once more off a penalty corner, senior Victoria Burton (Marietta, Pa. / Donegal) passed to Woodring, whose shot ricocheted into the cage for her third goal of the year, which doubled the Warrior lead.
Goucher did not go quietly in the final period, though, scoring their goal just over three minutes into the final quarter, as Vivian Onunga took a pass from Charlotte Bloom and scored to cut the lead in half.
However, Lycoming senior keeper Isabella Bobe did not allow anything more past her, as she stopped eight shots to lock down the Warriors’ 2-1 victory.
The Warriors will be back home for a Landmark Conference match vs. Elizabethtown College, as well as Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 18. The game gets underway at 1 p.m.
