Lycoming hopes to snap four-game losing skid, earn win against Moravian

RALPH WILSON/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Lycoming's Ross Eyer, a Muncy graduate, fends off Rowan's Ezra Williams-Thomas (39) during a college football game at David Person Field last week.

For the third time this season, victory was close for Lycoming’s football team, only to slip away.

After a 52-29 loss two weeks ago to Dickinson, the Warriors were hoping for a rebound win against Rowan at David Person Field at Girardi Stadium. Lycoming was within five points with nine minutes to play, but Lycoming couldn’t quite rally late to win as Rowan earned a 34-23 win.

The Warriors are hoping this week things change and a win finally goes to Lycoming.

Lycoming hosts Moravian today at 1 p.m. for Lycoming’s homecoming, the second-to-last home game of the year for Lycoming.

Lycoming saw success in the air last week as Joe Lyons went 22 for 39 for 280 yards and a touchdown, although he had an interception and was sacked three times. Terrence Oliver continued his outstanding season. While he didn’t break 100 yards, he did rush for 79 and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Warriors allowed 289 passing yards and three passing touchdowns to Rowan quarterback Nate Maieiers and Rowan, as a team, ran for 158 yards, 116 of which came from Nunes Bukula IV.

The Warriors have struggled stopping the run this season. Through four games, Lycoming has given up 774 rushing yards and is averaging 181.5 yards per game allowed. However, the Warriors’ success seems to be their own rushing attack.

The Warriors have 1,154 rushing yards this season and are averaging an outstanding 261.5 per game.

Today is the start of Landmark Conference play for Lycoming, and the Warriors know there’s no easy game in the conference.

The last time the two played, Moravian earned a 34-23 win against Lycoming last November.

The two have traded wins the last few years .Since 2003, the two schools are 3-3 with each team winning every other year against the other in years they’ve played.

Like Lycoming, Moravian enters today’s game winless and is eyeing the first victory of 2025.

Moravian has lost to Muhlenberg College (38-19), Roan (56-0), Ursinus College (35-7) and William Paterson (38-14).

Moravian is allowing nearly 200 rushing yards per game, which is something Lycoming will look to exploit with Oliver, one of the league’s top running backs.

Moravian has gone through three different quarterbacks with at least 20 passing attempts in RJ Hart (22 for 41, 172, 2 TDs, 4 INT), Jared Jenkins (23 for 34, 238, 3 TDs, 3 INT) and Declan mcCarthy (10 for 28, 84, 1 INT). on the ground, Joey Richmond leads the team wtih just 87 rushing yards through four games and Jed Bendekovits has 86 rushing yards.

Starting at $2.99/week.
