DANVILLE– The District 4 Class AAA championship was about as evenly-matched as it could get Wednesday night, with Shikellamy taking the title after beating Milton on penalty kicks, 4-1.
The Black Panthers led the Braves in shots on goal during the first half, but there was no scoring until there were a little over 10 minutes left in the match.
Milton came out swinging again at the start of the second half, but both goalkeepers remained perfect despite an onslaught from both offenses.
On its second corner attempt of the night, Kat Bennage knocked a ball into the box and Sammy Roarty put it home to put the Black Panthers up 1-0. The Braves answered four minutes later on a pass from Lily Persing to Jillian Deivert to tie the game.
Two overtime periods followed the late scoring spree, but neither side could find paydirt and the contest was decided on penalties.
