For the second day in a row, the Montoursville girls volleyball team competed against a PIAA Region IV 3A team. On Tuesday night, it was against No. 2 ranked Shamokin.

In Set One, the Warriors jumped out to an eight-point lead before Shamokin started to close the gap. At the end of the set, Montoursville managed to eek out the 25-23 win.

Set Two started similarly, with the Warrors charging into the lead. The Indians once again answered with strong runs but in the second set, Montoursville refused to allow the gap to close more than 6 points, taking the second set 25-19.

Set Three shocked the Warriors as Shamokin came out very strong in all aspects of the game. Stymied by the onslaught, the Blue and Gold dropped the third set by a lopsided score of 6-25.

Set Four once again saw a strong effort by Shamokin, with back-and-forth battles throughout the set. The Indians made a strong run toward the end of the set, leaving the Warriors staring at a 20-24 deficit when they won the rally and got the serve back, moving the gauge to 21-24.

Sophomore Laney Yonkin rotated to the service line knowing that one error would finish the set. Undeterred, Yonkin delivered a strong serve causing an overpass that was immediately terminated by Middle Hitter Dahlia Campbell.

Aces from Yonkin brought Montoursville within a point of tying up the match, resulting in a Shamokin timeout. After the timeout, Yonkin returned to the service line and on queue delivered a score tying ace.

With the score tied at 24-24, Yonkin’s serve was managed by Shamokin. However, the attempt fell short for the Indians on an attack error, sending Yonkin back to the line for her fifth service attempt with her team leading 25-24.

On her final serve, Yonkin delivered a perfect float that dropped suddenly before the Indian’s receiver could adjust, resulting in her final ace in the effort, securing Montoursville’s six match win streak.

The Warriors will host Hughesville this Thursday for their Senior Recognition night.
