Williamsport boys fall to Wyoming Valley West in district semifinals
Williamsport’s season came to an end in the District 2-4 Class AAAA semifinals on Saturday at Wyoming Valley West as the Millionaires came up shy, 4-0. Williamsport was limited to eight shots the entire game and weren’t able to get one past Wyoming Valley West’s keeper.
“We did not come out to play in the first half. We just had a little bit of mental lapse in first game being such a big victory that you had that mental lapse and they took advantage of us not having that same desire,” Williamsport coach Brett Hofstrom said. “Second half we out-played them. Again I think that was the difference was that we just did not come out ready like we did against Scranton.”
Wyoming Valley West held a 3-0 lead at the half before Williamsport played better in the second half and limited Wyoming Valley West to one goal. Wyoming Valley West ended the game with 17 shots. Max Fink did all he could to keep the Millionaires in the game in goal as he had nine saves.
While the loss stings, Hofstrom was more than proud of what his team was able to accomplish this year reaching the district semifinals.
“The guys worked for it all season, there’s no doubt about that. You have a lot of kids who got some valuable minutes, some great experience being underclassmen which should help us for next year,” Hofstrom said. “I’m proud of the senior group as well for all they’ve done for the program over the past four years. It’s disappointing that we’re done, but hopefully propels us to the next level.”
