You can consider it a friendly rivalry between Ava Eyer and Kiki Woodward. The two are teammates and friends and have been a huge reason for Muncy’s success this year. But while they’re teammates, there is that small competitive fire between them.

Perhaps that’s what makes them both so outstanding up top.

“They are each other’s biggest fans, and at same time, each other’s biggest competitor and I think that’s huge. I think Ava immediately brought Kiki into the mix of this is what we do, this is how we do it,” Muncy coach Jason Gresh said. “Kiki quickly adapted because I’m sure it’s certainly different than the club (team). You can see each game they’re getting better and connecting better and playing better which is awesome because they’re both back next year. That’s massive.”

Eyer is a junior and Woodward is just a freshman. And those two along with Ella Nagel have formed a scoring three-headed monster that most defenses can’t entirely shut down.

Eyer leads Muncy with 33 goals scored and has dished out 11 assists. Woodward has 31 goals and nine assists and Nagel, a senior, has a team-high 28 assists with 14 goals.

A total of 78 goals between three girls? That’s not a bad offensive trio to have for a coach.

When the three were interviewed after Tuesday’s 3-0 win against York Catholic in the first round of the PIAA Class A playoffs, they all complemented one another’s style of play and how they fuel one another.

“I feel like we feed off of each other’s energy a lot and we’re all in a triangle. I’m passing to (Eyer), I’m passing to (Woodward), and we know what to do. We kind of play off each other,” Nagel said. “If Ava’s in center and Kiki’s on other side spreading away from her, I know where I’m going based on what those two are doing.

“I mean we’re all pretty versatile so working together in that trinity is yeah, something that’s very impactful,” Eyer said.

Muncy has scored more than 100 goals this year, and while that trio has contributed 78 of them, there’s players like Zoe Kunkle (seven goals, seven assists), Amelia Beckman (four goals, three assists), Mikaila Ganoe (three goals, four assists) and Lexi McKeta (three goals, nine assists), among plenty others, who can help the offense succeed.

Eyer, Woodward and Nagel all contributed in Tuesday’s win. Eyer scored twice, Woodward had the team’s final goal to put a dagger in during the second half and Nagel found all three as she had the assists.

“If I have a bunch of girls on me, I can’t distribute, they know where to get open for me so I can get the ball from out under my feet and get it back and get it to them where it needs to go,” Nagel said.

As mentioned, Eyer and Woodward have a friendly competitive rivalry with one another, and Gresh pointed out how that friendly competition can push them both to be their best.

“They’re always joking around and they stay loose together which is super important and I do think they do push each other,” Gresh said.

There’s no doubt that offensive trio will be pushing each other on Saturday against Schuylkill Haven.
