Not many teams can rally from a three-goal deficit, let alone against a defensive juggernaut such as Lewisburg which has a stout back line, an outstanding keeper and possesses the ball constantly. But Lake Lehman gave it their best shot on Tuesday.
Lake Lehman scored at the horn before halftime before putting in a goal within the first 10 minutes of the second half and cut a 3-0 deficit to 3-2 and made things interesting. Lewisburg held on, however, to win 3-2, and that’s all that matters for the Green Dragons and their fans.
The win moved Lewisburg to 20-0-1 and secured a trip to the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals on Saturday against District 12 champion Devon Prep at Northern High School in Dillsburg at. 2 p.m.
Lewisburg is ranked No. 2 in the state in the latest Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association poll, behind only top-seeded Northwestern Lehigh, who is on the top side of the bracket with the Green Dragons.
Devon Prep (14-5-1) had a 5-1 win to advance over District 11 runner-up Palisades.

The Tide have an offense that can put up goals as they enter Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup with 69 goals scored, but defensively have allowed 28 this year. The Tide know they have to make every shot count against a team like Lewisburg which rarely allows an open look at the goal and has players who swarm to the ball on defense.
And in goal, Gabe Pawling is a stud who has given up only six goals through 21 games, two of them coming on Tuesday and two in the regular season came via penalty kicks.
“He’s, in my opinion, one of the best keeper in the state, you don’t give up four goals by chance,” Lewisburg’s Viktor Permyashkin said after winning the district title last week. “The saying defense wins championships, it doesn’t describe this team better. It all starts in the back and as we work it up, it makes us look good because we score, but we win games because we don’t give up any goals.”
Lake Lehman on Tuesday became the first team this entire season to score multiple goals against the Green Dragons.
The Tide’s defensive game plan will no doubt center around trying to slow down the senior duo of Isaac Ayres and Permyashkin, but very few teams have been able to contain them this year. The duo has 24 goals each while Permyashkin has recorded 17 assists and Ayres has eight. In addition, if they’re locked down, Lewisburg has no problem having junior Keegan Crosby (eight goals, 16 assists) score or senior Logan Kitchens (seven goals).
The Green Dragons have a “one game at a time” mentality and that’s been key for the team’s success this year as they sit at 20-0-1. That’s a credit to coach Ben Kettlewell keeping his team focused at the task at hand and not getting overly confident.
“It’s one game at a time, you can’t look forward too far because you got to take care of business first,” Permyashkin said after winning districts.
