Sophomore guard Princeton Layton poured in a career-high 28 points as the Lycoming College men’s basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 98-78 non-conference victory over King’s College on Monday at Lamade Gym.

Lycoming (3-4, 0-2) shot just under 51% from the field on 36 for 71 shooting while also going 15 for 31 (48.4%) from 3-point range as King’s (2-5) drilled 10 threes of their own, but never could catch up to the hot-shooting Warriors.

The Warriors scored the first seven points of the game, holding the Monarchs scoreless for over four minutes to start the game. The lead ballooned to 30-12 at the 9:44 mark after a three-pointer from freshman Elisha Slabach.

King’s gradually chipped away, closing to within six points at the 2:37 mark, but the Warriors held steady to lead 44-36 at the break.

The Monarchs again pulled within six points just over three minutes into the second half, but the Warriors scored the next eight points, with Layton starting the run with an old-fashioned three-point play. The run eventually stretched to 22-6 over a stretch of 5:40 to grow the lead to 22 points. The Warriors never looked back on the way to the 20-point victory.

Layton nearly doubled his previous career-best with his 28 points on 10 of 16 shooting and 4 for 8 from 3-point range, while adding seven rebounds, and five assists. Senior Isaiah Valentine added 17 points, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range with seven rebounds. Junior Hayden Pardoe, a Central Mountain graduate, chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.

Jake Karnish led King’s with 20 points and 15 rebounds and Devin Kinnick added 16 points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3, for a Landmark Conference matchup against Goucher. Tip-off from Lamade Gym is scheduled for 7 p.m.
