Southern Columbia beats Cowanesque Valley in District 4 playoffs in football
Southern Columbia scored 41 points in the first two quarters and never let Cowanesque Valley threaten en route to a 41-20 win in the District 4 Class AA playoffs on Friday night.
Brayden Andrews accounted for five of Southern’s six touchdowns. He had a 66-yard run 15 seconds into the game to set the tone early before he caught a 26-yard pass from Ayden Hockenbroch to put the Tigers ahead, 14-0. Andrews then had a 17-yard run for a 21-0 first-quarter lead.
Andrews had a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and had a 17-yard run with 4:59 to play in the second quarter until halftime. Joey Williams had a 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Dave Hess had all three of Cowanesque’s scores. He punched in a 4-yard touchdown with 2:02 to play until halftime and then had a 13-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and caught a 21-yard touchdown pass in the third from Levi Stahli.
Southern out-gained Cowanesque, 398-162, in total yards. Grady Garcia led Southern with 114 rushing yards while Andrews had 104. Cowanesque was led by Hess’ 51 rushing yards.
